I was wondering if any of you had any unique tips of tracking advertising? In particular, do you usually track people who call in for quotes, or only people who end up going w/ you?

I always ask people that call me, how did they hear about me and my services.

Keep track of every single call, quote, person I talked to about insurance, and always, always, ask how they heard about me.

Track direct mail by putting a code on it. For my mortgage protection, I use the date I send it to the printer. I've seen really tiny print in the bottom right corner of many direct mail pieces I have received with certain codes.

For internet leads & other direct mail campaigns, make a spreadsheet in Excel. For call-in leads, simply ask how they heard of you.
