Trump Won, Vows Day 1 Full Repeal. Lets Discuss.

I agree with some of the stuff you post, but giving yourself a Thumbs Up is NOT cool.:nah: ---------- That's an admirable story Ann! You should be very proud of all you've accomplished in life. YOU made it happen!
I agree. You reap what you sow. People that put in the hard work will be faced with opportunities in life.

You made a good point. But there is a a bigger point. Partisan didn't start with the Republicans refusing to fix it. The ACA was birthed in 100% partisan (Democrat) politics, with 0% Republican support. That didn't end with the law's birth. President Obama blamed the Republicans for not "fixing" it, but the only fixes he would approve were Democratic in nature. He had 0% regard for the needs of the other half of the country.

Maybe that "bigger point" is what you meant in the first place. I don't know. But "out-of-balance" is one of the big problems.

When you reform health care (which is 1/3 of the US Economy), you must take into consideration the needs of ALL people, from the poor to the working class taxpayer, from the sick to the young and healthy, from the consumer to the provider, from the insurer to the business owner. Otherwise, it falls flat on its face. The Republicans control Congress & the White House now. If they do another "extremely out-of-balance" law, it will fail big time. If their idea of "fixes" are only things that make the law stronger in their favor, it will continue to fail until the other half of the country stands up, slaps them down, and runs them over. Isn't it time we stop blaming the other party and work together? Insurers cannot blame Providers. Providers cannot say, "It's that darn insurance company's fault". The poor cannot expect the working class to go poor to pay for the poor's free stuff. The working class and rich cannot ignore that the poor are sometimes in a box, and need help before they can get out. It's a BALANCE, and any far-extreme out-of-balance approach is destined for failure. Pointing fingers at the opposing party and saying, "You wouldn't vote for it our way, you wouldn't fix it our way," is not even close to being balanced.

Is Romney a Democrat? Because the ideal plan was based off of Romney's plan in MA. Romney and Obama campaigned on the same national healthcare plan.

Why did it become such a bad plan when Romney lost?

NO matter if there is repeal in one day, the industry is not ready and would not be ready for a year. Rates usually are submitted about 6 months in advance for approval. All of my 2017 rates were applied and confirmed in June 2016.

And states rights come into play. What if your state decides to keep the ACA? I work in a state that adopted the Clinton plan in 1994 and as long as you didn't tell them the name behind the plan, the vast majority liked it. Will states, even conservative states, let a federal challenge to their authority go unchallenged?

About the only thing that can be done quickly is defund the premium help, which would turn about 20 million people back to the uninsured. Not good.

Health insurance and health care in general is an issue that neither party really wants because no matter how they do, they lose. Premium is a reflection of cost. Neither side has addressed cost and probably won't. Instead it will be a matter of shifting risk back to the consumer because the only way to reduce premium cost is to shift who pays for what.

Today it was leaked that Representative TOM PRICE of Georgia, is going to be the new HHS Secretary effective January 20, 2017.

STORY: Trump picks Tom Price for Health secretary | TheHill

Does anyone here have information on Mr. Price's way of thinking, personality, etc.? I hope he's HIGH ENERGY and is eager to QUICKLY reverse some of the HHS rules that Sebelius and Burwell dreamed up.

Dr. Tom Price(R) is a retired orthopedic surgeon from the Atlanta area. He has been in the House about 10 years. Was active at one time in the local health underwriters association. Co-sponsored an alternative to Obamacare that never got past Pelosi.

I don't recall the details but I think it would essentially have kept the existing (before Ocare) delivery and payment system in place. Pretty sure he was/is an advocate for buying across state lines.

THANK-YOU Somarco! I was hoping that YOU would respond, since you're the most qualified agent in this forum for commenting on an HHS Secretary who hails from Georgia. What you relayed SOUNDS GREAT! Fingers crossed that Price accepts the offer.

Tom Price has been a vocal critic of Ocare since the beginning. He drafted bills in every Congress since 2009 aimed at repeal and they included detailed replacement plans. Of course, they failed to pass every time. Some of his ideas were included in future repeal/replace efforts, though. He also has done a lot of work with Medicare payments issues, and he knows that system well. His viewpoints are pretty well aligned with The AMA from what I hear, and of course he views healthcare reform from the physician viewpoint. Some politically inclined physicians think that they understand insurance just because they have dealt with it in their practices, when in fact some of their key insurance reform ideas would fall flat. I am not familiar enough with his ideas to know, but I sure hope that he takes a viewpoint as a taxpayer, a business owner, an insurer, and a consumer as well as viewpoints as a physician.

This could also mean that the Republicans might actually alter Medicare, since that was a big part of Price's positions when he was in Congress.

Thank-you Ann. Sounds like Mr. Price is well-balanced. Even though I liked Ben Carson, I don't think he would understand that many of the so-called "protections" built into Obamacare are simply overkill. (Like maternity for all.) He'd view the entire overhaul solely from a Physician's point of view, IMO. I can't wait to start sending messages to Mr. Price's suggestion box.

------

Paul Ryan wants to privatize Medicare. Mr. Price might go along with that and throw in some of his own goodies. Since Donald Trump doesn't know much about this stuff, he'll probably sign-off on it.
