Trump Won, Vows Day 1 Full Repeal. Lets Discuss.

Are you writing a check for that premium or sucking off some other option? You remind me of a teacher I had in grade school. His favorite saying was "I have mine, you have yours to get". It doesn't matter. He's dead now.

I assume you must be a lib because you slander versus intelligent discussion.

SOOOOO MANY TIMES...It's been said....Give a man (FLM2:goofy:) a fish and he will eat for a day . Give a man a Section 8 housing , a Free bag of weed , a six pack of beer , a Welfare Check , Free cell phones , Food Stamps , Section 8 housing , and he will vote for a democrat, protest, riot, refuse to get a job, etc.....................for the rest of his life !

Our system is structurally flawed. What you miss is that those you expect to fish have never fished, don't know how to fish and have no fishing pole. When someone has no resources, receives any subsidy and loses dollar for dollar every time they earn one, there is a disincentive to go work a crappy job with no path to improvement.

I've heard many espouse similar beliefs. One friend of mine doesn't understand how people can be poor. He grew up in coal KY country, joined the air force then sold phone cards to make his money. The unfortunate part is he thinks it was all because of his great self.

What he ignores is that he got lucky. He ran into a recruiter by chance. He went into the AF at a time when there was a cold war going on - that means he didn't get his ass shot. He got out and had the GI bill. The AF sent him to San Diego where there were a bunch of Mexicans who were buying phone cards. He couldn't get another job so he sold cards. There was a huge margin in phone cards back then so he made money. Now, he bemoans the immigrants (his forefathers are Irish immigrants) and thinks everyone should pay for their health insurance or do without while he loads up on Medicare claims. Of course, he deserves his part of gubment assistance. No hypocrisy there.

But we need to provide tools and set subsidies to be a means and incentive to get off. Living poor isn't comfortable.

THIS.

The best thing we could to do to help ALL Americans (poor or wealthy, who are paying for the entitlements) is to return vocational training to high schools. We need to graduate kids (for free) at 18 with the ability to earn a living. And if that includes condoms and birth control pills at every teachers desk, so be it. Its cheaper to pay for those than WIC. That's the investment that we need to make as a country. It saves money because they aren't on food stamps. If you graduate from High School, the chance that you will wind up in prison drops substantially, at a $40K per year savings to the taxpayer. The list goes on and on. We taught them to fish. For Free. At a place they are legally required to attend.

(I realize this thread is way off track at this point, so I figured I might as well keep it there!)

Exactly, the problem is the cycle of poverty. We learn from those around us as children. If your parents or guardians are broke and living off the government dime, that is what you will learn. Those that break the cycle are the exception and not the rule.

Everyone who grew up middle class or better simply doesn't realize how lucky they are. You were taught work ethic, you never had to worry if the lights would be on, food in the fridge or even a place to come home to at night. Many children grow up in that environment and it is stressful. Then as young adults who attended poor schools and who lacked the home environment to teach them to take advantage of even that, they are faced with a minimum wage job or living on the dole. Who wouldn't choose some sort of government check in a situation like that?

You can blame the parents and the children as much as you want. It still won't change anything. And any assistance program that effectively punishes work is broken. A dollar for dollar reduction in benefits or a cliff where benefits stop simply discourages work and at best it encourages unreported cash jobs.

Too bad we no longer have a politics forum. This thread would be perfect there.

We still do and it's at the bottom of the page. It is also closed to public viewing unlike this thread. It's a place where a person can spout off all they want about other people and the possibility of those other people coming across it is slim.

Here on this side of things, the words you post become public knowledge via google and other search engines.

While it may be fun at the moment to make remarks about others and what they "should" do to fix their situations, the people who BUY from us can read your comments too.

I know that is slow to sink into some heads here, but when you go off about other people the way this thread has, you might was well put a sign in your window that you don't serve blacks, gays or liberals.

I have customers of all faiths, political beliefs, personal life choices. I get along very well with all of them. Keep in mind when you're bashing gays with that conservative prospect that they might have a son or daughter who are gay.

This is a public forum that people outside the industry read. If you're going to tell the world your views on why something is the way it is, please go to the bottom of the page and join in with that group. Those threads are blocked from public view. While some here might be too dumb to realize this, this forum is an extension of your business.

The owner of the forum keeps the other section open to prevent several people from coming up to the public sections and spouting their nonsense. So either think about what you post or join those guys down there and complain to your hearts content about gays, liberals and people of color. I guarantee you they will like you down there.

Please think about what you post here. If it's not professional, don't assume it's OK here. Thanks.

Two things I learned a long time ago in business, and of which I am constantly reminded.

1. I would much rather get the results I want than be "right."
2. When it comes to prospects, the only color I care about is the color of their money. As long as it is legal and clears the bank, I couldn't care less about their religion, background, race, gender, etc.

While I do not care to, I will discuss politics to humor a client. I do not discuss politics with prospects.

LGilmore, I agree with you. Just like people hope that Trump acts Presidential, there are people hoping that we help them understand health insurance with a professional demeanor. Thank you for reminding us that our words matter and so does our attitude.

And speaking of agreeing, I certainly agree that those who come from poor roots are born and raised in a culture where having a career is a foreign concept. I was raised poor to the extreme (14 brothers & sisters, no running water, no electricity, no indoor plumbing, no telephone in a remote area of Montana). I was given an 8th grade education, then worked the fields & housework. So, at age 18, I took control of my own life, and got the education I was lacking, including a 4 year college education. It was frightening. None of the women in my family had ever stepped foot on a college campus and only 2 of the men had. The fact that I excelled is a combination of grit, luck, guidance from others, and a good opportunity. I was given talents and intelligence, but some people are not born with that. For me it happened during a good economy, but some people don't have that. I met the right people, but some people unfortunately meet the wrong crowd. I was lost. And scared. It was like a foreign country.

The only thing I can take credit for is grit & determination. The rest was given to me or happened to me.

There are plenty of people who WANT out of poverty. They don't know how. So, I agree with a hand out and a hand up, but mostly for the short-term. For the long-term, it takes JOBS, an education, and vocational training, with the courtesy and patience that sinks deep into the recipient and gives them hope, incentive, and a clear view of the grass that's greener on the other side.

It seems that one group promotes jobs, and the other group promotes hand-outs. It takes both. And it takes patient understanding with courteous prompting. I just don't see too much of that these days.

The only one here that's playing the race card and discussing "bashing gays" as you call it.......is you! Now, why is that?

I agree with some of the stuff you post, but giving yourself a Thumbs Up is NOT cool.:nah:

That's an admirable story Ann! You should be very proud of all you've accomplished in life. YOU made it happen!
