I agree with Rick. Set up the poll and it's bye bye ALice. At least while he is posting his nonsense here, he is not out screwing up someone's life with his lack of insurance knowledge.

So now you want to start a witch-hunt? Knowing you and your far-right, gun-nut political proclivities, why am I not surprised?

Unless Sam throws me off for having the courage to stand up to bullies like you, I'm staying right here. Get used to it.

I suggest that you put on your red and black arm-band, get yourself a large cross and burn it over on the Top Gun list. I think they will be more receptive to you and your brand of "tolerance" over there.

Al says-"I'm a fairly accomplished writer, have one a few minor awards, have been published in Inc. Magazine and other places (I will post the links if anyone wants.) OK, I'm not John Steinbeck or Ernest Hemingway, but I do OK with the English language."

I'm not picking sides here, but does anyone else find it funny that in Al's post about being a fairly accomplished writer he misused "one" when he meant "won?"

Gave me a chuckle!

If that is all that makes you laugh you are indeed a man of good humor, merriment, and mirth.

Now you know why I used the adverb 'fairly' in my self-description.

A 'truly' accomplished writer would have caught the error.... assuming he/she re-read the post before clicking "submit" which many writers (of all levels) hardly ever do!

If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. By the way, you don't know me - but I'll be watching you. Get used to it. :policeman:

I also think that Frank and Rick are outstanding gentlemen and fantastic contributors to this forum. I don't understand why you think they are "out to get" you. Perhaps it is from all of the years of your self proclaimed drug usage. Paranoia seems to have taken hold of you.

I'm fine with the heat in the kitchen. It's out there in the open field with you guys in your sheets and hoods around a burning cross is the 'heat' I can't take.

By the way, you don't know me
Oh wrong. I know you, your kind, and what you can do quite well. I've read my history. I'm old enough to remember 'night riders' and Skokie, and Birmingham and Bull Connors, and your other cultural heroes and icons.

- but I'll be watching you. Get used to it.
... from the shadows that you live in, under the sheets and hood you dress in. I know you.

You are entitled to your opinion (not that you would grant me the same liberty.)

I don't understand why you think they are "out to get" you.
If you have half a brain and can read what Rick has posted, you would know. If not, you wouldn't.

Paranoia seems to have taken hold of you.
With you and guys like Dick Chaney running the country, why are you surprised?

[FONT=Courier, Courier New] Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

Al, here's one for you. If you haven't listened to the song give it a try - I think it's one of Arlo's best.

Oh Mom
words by Terry Hall music by Arlo Guthrie

Mom's just a throw-back
To the sixties generation
All that junk like peace and love
Is just an aggravation
Ain't got no use for transcendental meditation
Mom, you're universal love is such a drag

*Well Mom said Dad
He might've been a Virgo
Or a head shop owner
Or two freaks from San Francisco
A washed out surfer with his body golden tanned
Or some lead singer in a psychedelic band

Feeding me granola
And other flakey stuff
You told me meat was hostile
But I just can't get enough
Being vegetarian just ain't quite my scene
There's only so much you can do with soy beans
Mom, your universal love is such a drag

Mom keeps telling me
About her days at Woodstock
Half a million space-balls
And all of them with their feet stuck
Freaking out on acid and what Bob Dylan says
I think she's tryin' to turn me into Joan Baez

Oh Mom can't you tell me where your head's at
I'm sick to death of hearing about
Where you saw the Grateful Deads at
Oh Mom, don't you know this is the eighties?
Oh Mom, can't you relate to what the date is?

Mom's just a throw-back
To the sixties generation
All that junk like peace and love
Is just an aggravation
Ain't got no use for transcendental meditation
Mom, your universal love is such a drag

Thanks. I never heard this song. It sure describes me pretty well! I still practice TM, but not every day. I also follow many (not all) of the teachings of the Bhakti Yoga (Hare Krishna) movement and try to chant some of the Matha Mantra each day.

I'm more centrist in my politics these days... probably comes from amassing some wealth as opposed to my poor student days.

As I "prepare" to turn 60 this Dec. 1, I wonder if the 60s were just exciting because of all the things that happened... or if it was because I was young and impressionable.

"Far out."

Your Welcome. I thought you would get a kick out of it. Make sure to give it a listen. You can drop the (ice) unless your thinking about Cooper or a restaurant (with Thanksgiving coming up).

I'm not all that far behind you - 'bout a decade. You know what they say - "If you remember the 60's, you were not really there". BTW, I did the TM thing too while in my teens.

I definitely will if I can find it on iTunes.

I was never a fan of Cooper. Never liked his music. But I loved Alice's Restaurant.... and I learned the entire thing and used to perform it in bars for beer money back in my "I wanna be a musician" days (early 70s.)

Thanks for the memories. I didn't think anyone remembered the Arlo classic. You never hear it.

I kind of like the Al(ice) moniker. It makes a subtle "social statement" without being overtly 'political.' I think I will keep it... for a while anyway. I think some of the folks here need a 'reminder' about tolerance. Gay? Straight? In the great scheme of things, there are more important issues to worry about.
