Maine state Insurance Commissioner complaining about provision in the financial reform bill to establish a National Insurance Regulatory Commission or whatever it is called. (not talking just health here, her objections are also around life and annuity etc). Apparently there are provisions that let the feds overrule the states in areas where foreign companies are involved. She is concerned that the state may lose its authority to require certain companies to meet certain financials (reserves in particular) as a condition of doing business in the state. Ironically, the commissioner argues that insurance regulation has traditionally been left to the states (if you don't laugh here you cry).
Oympia has introduced an amendment to kill that provision.
