Updated Burial and Cremation Cost Sheets with Credit Card Payoff Chart

Had my funeral and cremation sheets updated to reflect 2018 average costs (most sheets use 2009) - with an additional section to show how much it costs to pay off the burial or cremation with a credit card - and how long.

One look at the average monthly payment to pay it off versus the prices you present prices will be quite a contrast and no-brainer...

Nice but I doubt most of these folks have 10k of available credit space to even consider it an option.

I responded to your FB post about this so this may be redundant but those selling FE would be well served to go to your local Funeral Home and get their GPL, (general price list). I wonder about some of the line items on the NFHD lists you linked as the local FHs are bundliing packages. Be good to show your client both and let them decide the level of perceived coverage. I advise all clients that FE is NOT Medicaid spenddown safe. It is gains any value, it is vulnerable.

Your cremation chart is not the most commonly selected services for people who cremate. In fact it's the least selected items. What you have is a full Funeral with embalming and a casket viewing and just followed by cremation rather than burial.

With cremation the most commonly selected way is a direct cremation. No services, no embalming, no casket. Just a cremation container and sent to the crematory. The total ranges from around $1,200 to $2,000. Even less in some areas like Florida.

The second most common is cremation followed by a memorial service. That going to usually average around $3500 total.

By far the least common is a traditional funeral followed by cremation.

The math is way off at the bottom of the Average Funeral Cost sheet. $319.80 x 22 years and 1 month would be $84,747...not $22,545.

Have you used Compare Funeral Homes | Parting ?

These numbers might work with someone who has no idea what costs are. But if you pull this out with someone who just cremated a friend or relative for $1,500; you can lose all credibility.

My direct cremations preneed start at $564 I'm a bottom feeder that is why I'm learning to cross sale this other stuff. One of the funeral homes I work with just gave me a verbal to go $500 direct cremation preneed. At least now I have ability to do preneeds by phone if they are a little email literate. SCI who I worked for for 25 years has five different brand names running in Phoenix about 20 locations the "Dignity Memorial Brand"I got a quote the other day $2,500 direct cremation. Direct Cremation also may be called simple or immediate in some areas is the bare minimum no frills approach Cremation with services at a top tier location can add up close to a traditional funeral and will most likely include cemetery options.

My response got me thinking. Obviously you're talking about more middle class folks if they even think about others way to pay such as using their "available credit" (for fe folks it's lucky if it's $39, don't ask how I know). Why don't middle class and up consider using a SPWL to simply take care of final expenses + money left over? The limited few I've done for other reasons were surprised to see what 10k can get. Or do they, and I'm missing the boat? Or are options directly at the funeral home somehow superior to this?
