Using the Better Business Designation

I probably feel somewhere in the middle on this. I also think it makes a difference on where you live. I know of several cases where the BBB got all over a business because of a complaint. The BBB actually did some informal mediation to get the complaint resolved. Locally at least, they will list complaints against a company and whether the complaint was resolved to the "customer's satisfaction".

I have an agent friend who has a "book" he brings to appointments. The first chapter is about himself. He has his awards and credentials including his BBB certificate and tells people that in ten years of membership, he has never had a complaint. In his case, I think the money is well spent.

I don't belong myself, but hey, that is just me.

Having the BBB endorsement is of comfort to potential clients, but of absolutely no use to disgruntled customers. The complaint procedure within BBB is pathetic and totally irresolute.

BBB is one source of credentials of a certain company. I can't really say that it is a scam or it is really reliable but if the case is you have to pay that is way too much to be able to join and get credentials then you have to think twice about it.

What does the BBB do anyway. I'd like to setup an agency where we add to the credibility of a business -- oh, almost forgot, people have to pay a fee to join -- sounds like a scam?

Im going to start the ebbb - even better business bureau.

Easy to get off the fence:

What does it cost?
Do you perceive any benefit at all?
Is the benefit worth the cost?

3 easy steps. Purchase or not accordingly.

$350/yr for the membership. $350/yr for their reliability stamp to place on the website.

My wife worked for allstate and state farm. Two well-known companies. I was hoping having the BBB listing would help with the credibility to consumers of our upstart insurance agency.
