No... although it may be that too.. it was the fine you would get over 10years ago when I worked at my college bookstore that sold Tobacco. If you got fought by a secret shopper not carding someone to make sure they were 18. You would get a $500 fine and get fired too.

selling beer i worse, that also has a jail sentence, too, as a maxmium penalty, whether they get jail or not is the question but in some states if the DA and the Judge want to really ruin someones life they can give a jail sentence to a cashier or bartender.

that is why being a nightclub bouncer is very under appreciated. Think about it you get paid state minimum wage with no health insurance, to break up fights and get punched in the face, and if ONE fake ID makes it by you, you could get a jail sentence.
