This forum is so helpful, and I just want to let everyone know that your time and effort here is very much appreciated! Here's what I learned today that I otherwise would have either not learned, or made lots of mistakes on the way to learning:

  1. I need a better marketing plan that "sell life insurance to people who have money"
  2. Contact Frank
  3. The Kansas City Public library offers online access to ReferenceUSA, for free
  4. There is something called ReferenceUSA that will help build cold-calling lists
  5. I should learn to love cold calling and creating my own leads
  6. I should call myself a Life Insurance Sales Person, not a Financial Advisor or something hoity-toity like that
  7. Sell Term Insurance, go from there

All that, for free? Holly hell this place is great.

#8 do not play strip poker with frank. At least he gave me my hat back.:swoon:

This forum really can be great!

I have a question about the ReferenceUSA data; does it scrub it against the DNC as well?

In my experience I NEVER learned how to love cold calling...

IMHO the way you make cold calling work is to set a goal/desire so strong that cold calling would be a process to get you in front of interested people.

Once you form a habit of doing things that failures don't like to do (cold calling) then you'll experience success

Good luck!

Whether they are helpful or not will be known AFTER you have tried them. Nothing works for everybody in every region.

Thanks for that, Lee. Jeeezus! My dinner is sitting worse now.

DrCarroll, good start and keep learning. Adapt your marketing over time to what works best for you. There is no one single magic method, each of us works best trying different things until we find those things that fit us. I hated being captive years ago because they had a one-size-fits-all mentality which did not work for me.

This forum is a good resource even if Wino is gonna post such lovely pictures

Here's what Wino REALLY looked like after the poker game..........

What you do not appreciate is that I am really working out. The picture does not show the unicycle. oops, lost the seat again:err:

No one learns to "love" cold calling. I have dusted my office in the morning to avoid making that first call of the day. Once the first call is out of the way and one falls into a rhythm then it isn't half bad.

Still not as much fun as playing poker with Wino though. It's a good thing he has a big head.

I only set one goal when making calls and it's not how many calls I make or how many hours I call. It's to make money. This job should be called "prospecting for insurance" not "selling insurance". Anyone can "sell" insurance to a qualified buyer. Finding that person is the tough part of this job.
