Which Insurance Companies to Avoid

Just curious Mark, even though I like most of your post's I see you have never been appointed with Conseco but you always point them out as you have in this thread and others and was wandering how you have come to that conclusion?

Well James, look under Gregory Rosenthal, my father. Not all contracts go under me. We were one of the top IMO's for Conseco Life back in the old days. We even got stock in Conseco. Which became worthless. I could sit here all day and tell you the reasons why not to work with them. If you read ambest.com you will see some of the reasons. Hell, I will take the time to list a couple of reasons. My IMO company was with U.P.I. when Conseco bought them and promised us they would not change anything. 45 days later, they closed the company and sold the building. UPI was a great company. Conseco really missed up buying everything they saw. Like Green Tree Financial, which really hurt them. The top people there spent money like it was going out of style and next thing you know, they are almost out of business and had a bad rating. I have never been treated as bad as the way Conseco did my IMO company through my father Gregory Rosenthal and they way they did my agents. I could sit here any write a book on the reason why not to touch them with a ten foot pole. I had nothing but problems with them and my agents were never happy with them. I still remember their "COIN" Leads program which sucked.

I hope this answers your question.

Why don't the top guys on this forum list the best company. We can then do a survey and the company that comes out on top as the best will be the one we all contract with. We will cancel the contracts we have on any company that's not the best! Right?

I knew you had to have a reason. But from all that I have read Mark it indicates that their financial ratings stem from their LTC business that they are in the process of selling off. The information you gave in your last post gives a lot more to hang a hat on. Thanks for your candor!

Are you really that stupid, or did you sleep at a Motel 8 last night? Mark told you why he doesn't like Conseco Life, get over it. Sure, everyone has the companies they like and dislike, Mark just happens to hate the one you're with. Accept it and move on.

Vol Agent before you go calling anyone stupid look in the mirror. I will take you on any day. Who are you anyway? Mark answered a legit question in a professional manner. If you don't like Conseco then you tell me why. If you don't like any insurance company tell me why but have a reason because just saying something is bad isn't saying much. If many say it then it may have more merit.

Feel better now?

thanks for the history mark ... so your business is a family business ... cool! I often wonder why you don't have some of the bigger name companies in your IMO ... I guess your dad and family have weeded out all the companies that are hard to deal with etc ... do you find American Amicable hard to deal with? I've written about 25 policies with them and I didn't like my experience so I quit submitting to them ... they always want admendments signed and tend to put people on ROP ... maybe it was just my luck? How long have you been with UHL? They seem to be your main gig ... what are your favorite products with UHL? Also, how do you compete with these big dogs on price? or do you just sell to the senior market? UHL and AmAm are not competitive at all when it comes to healthy, younger people.

It sounds as if you are looking for reputable companies with competitive rates. Not a bad idea.

Are you referring to life, health or P&C companies? Or all of them?

Hey :1err: Chump :1baffled:

You are exactly right. I keep getting emails from shady companies and I don't want to fall for the song and dance. I am just starting out and there is no telling how things are gonna go and when people get desperate they make stupid decisions. I wanna arm myself with information so that I can make informed decisions not stupid ones. I am getting into p&c as I was a little leery on the health side here in california. I do plan to move into other areas (life & financial) in the future but I think that p&c may have less of a learning curve (I hope). If I am wrong I can always make a change.

BTW, thanks to everyone for your input, I appreciate it all, even the fisticuffs.

Jerry...Your best bet is to find an experienced P&C person in Ca and see if they'll let you pick their brain for a few minutes.

Re fisticuffs, I always enjoy that part of the Forum as well. Usually, though, at the end of the day (week?) everyone is friendly again.

Exactly what I am doing, I am asking if they have any open positions and 10 minutes with the owner. No luck just yet, but that is great because losers will always be worried or too busy, the winner that I want to learn from will never be worried about the next greatest insurance man (I hope I am him, I plan to work to be) and will have or make time to help someone out, which is exactly what my hopes are for this carrier, helping people navigate through the safety net of insurance. I am psyched...all I need is my chance and I will make it happen.

Anyways back to the point of this post, any more, especially P&C companies to avoid....I can mention one....Farmers....because they are ridiculous expensive in these parts.
