You can't use the disaster SEP after 3/31/25.

It seems a little unclear as to whether the approval could be used to apply independently through an agent, or if the app has to be completed through Medicare online enrollment. I guess this is one of the things that we will receive clarification on in the coming months.

It shouldn't matter too much, I've used that SEP to help people in the past, and my retention of those cases wasn't good. Fork DST and the horse it rode in on.

I think this would be a welcome to all agents including call centers. A lot less churning involved. Of course MAPD call centers won't have much to do during April till September. I can see call centers only hiring during peak times then letting 75% of agents go.

It's absolutely clear that someone has to call 800-MEDICARE and complete an application with them.

"Beginning on April 1, 2025, individuals wishing to use the Disaster/Emergency SEP must call 1-800-MEDICARE in order to make an election."

"To avoid applicant confusion, plans must remove the Disaster/Emergency SEP from enrollment forms and other enrollment mechanisms prior to this date."

Carriers and regional directors were much behind the abuse of this . As somebody said cigna sends an email weekly alerting agents to use the sep . Another carrier regional director sent out an email the other day saying " great aep to all . Enjoy the holidays you deserve it BUT you can still sell to yr end with the sep . But honestly I still see call centers abusing seps like pharmaceutical assistance , move and change of Medicaid level . Carriers don't check those

I wonder about the accuracy/truthfulness of this statement. The plans were concerned?

"This change is in response to concerns that have been raised by plans about the misuse of theDisaster/Emergency SEP to enroll beneficiaries who were not affected by a declared disaster/emergency."

Many times direct marketing by plans are not under the same rules as agents

I wonder if they will be allowed to use these?
