Your Opinion on Buying Aged Direct Mail Leads

I thought I would post this question in the FE forum as I work this market quiet a bit. Over the years I have been offered to buy aged direct mail leads in both the FE and Mortgage protection market. I have always shied away from doing so keeping up with fresh leads only filling the coffers when referrals run low.

My question is for those who have bought and sold policies off aged direct mail leads.

What do you look for in aged leads and what success have you personally had based on your criteria?

No Kool-aid please just the facts.

They have a place, mostly for under-capitalized final expense agents that cannot afford a proper exclusive and fresh direct mail lead program.

I work aged leads all the time and do really good with them. Trained a new agent this week and he got 20 aged leads while we were out of town. He set 16 appointments and wrote 6 applications.

I don't mind aged leads because they send cards back all the time. Every time I work aged leads, I have someone bring up how they JUST sent the card in. They are shocked at how fast I got it and called em.

I'll only work aged DM. Also make sure it's not worked aged leads.

Awesome!! How old are the aged leads? Would you look for 6 months old year old or is time not a factor just not previously worked?

The only problem with really old ones is that people move. Some agents have a horrible attitude and look for something to blame. Those agents shouldn't work aged leads. With a positive attitude, they work perfectly. I don't care the age. Either they had a need and didn't get it handled or they did get it handled, then you just beat it if possible. If you're not great at replacing policies then don't buy aged DM until your upline trains you. If your upline can't train you, find a new one.

Do you recommend a source for aged DM leads?
