1st Post / Physicians Mutual Agent Job Offer

Thanks again to everyone who shared valuable information with me. I now have a new offer from Colonial Life I'm considering. I'm going to see what information I can find about them.

There was a thread on colonial not too long ago. Seems like they went to an MLM sort of contract, where they recruit like crazy. See, these companies who recruit like crazy, and offer you a job without any license nor esperience- that ought to tell you something. nothing against you, but it says they recruit anybody with a pulse, basically. It's like throwing mud against the wall... and seeing what sticks. Not that you are mud. Just a saying. If you are in Alabama, you ought to go to the most successful Liberty national office in your area, and just talk with a few agents who have been there more than 5 years. If you can find any. They churn and burn through agents as well, and they do not have a great ruputation, however, in Alabama they run the show. The home office used to be there till it got moved to McKinney TX or however they did that with torchmark....but the point is, they still may have some old school guys from back in days when LibNat was really something special, and they may be able to give you some insight.

Ok, now I'm a bit worried. I bought there sales pitch. I am being honest not sarcastic in asking, who are the better companies for a newbie with a license to start with. Names of the companies and why they are better please. What is a contract like in these companies, percentage, vesting.

Thanks this seems a great place for information. I just do not know how to take the advice. No I haven't "drank the cool aid" but the pitcher is on the table and they make it look good.

OK, I guess its a challenge to all of you now. If Physicians Mutual is so bad, what company would you consider good? By the way I am in Iowa, we sell both issue and attained age. I still am looking around out of curiosity and always open to a better offer.

I noticed you are from Iowa, I am from there originally. I can tell you this: PM is generally better managed in Iowa and Nebraska than in some other states, because of the closeness to the home office, however, the products are still not that great. If I were a newby in Iowa, and I used to be, 20+ years ago, I think I may look into Mutual of Omaha, Western Southern, maybe a few companies like that. Maybe even American Family or something, get a P&C license.

thank you for answering,

Mutual of Omaha, is major competitor for us. Their product is by far less expensive. That goes a long way with customers in this state. They raise rates way fast after getting the person signed up. 20% per year is common. At least in Iowa they only sell attained age.

OK, you knew all this, sorry. It is tough selling against them and I am thinking the old saying, if you can't beat em, join em, is beginning to make more and more sense. I have been contacted by American Family, Farmers Mutual, State Farm and others like them. Really the only reason I went with Physicians was they nagged longer so I went to hear there pitch and hear I am.

I would consider it a favor if you would elaborate on why you think American Family and that type of company would be better for me. There does need to be something better, my sales are not good and I am about to become a statistic in the tried it, didn't make it column. I really do not want that as I can see how this industry has great potential if I can stick with it.

Thanks again

After working there I can say that their med-supps are so high as to be laughable. The home office was a joke. Three managers making 100K plus overrides and to my astonishment writing little or no business, not to mention the fact that they did not help me one bit. They have over 30 agents hired with maybe 5 or 6 putting up business...and only one of those guys you could say was actually making a living. You want to go broke? Start working for PM!
