AARP Got to Love'um

Let me type slowly AL#3 so maybe you can follow.

Thank you. I mean, we old people are probably not able to keep up with the great intellect that you exhibit here on a daily basis. I do appreciate your concern that somehow I'm just not smart enough to understand what you say. I sure wish you could have said the above to me face to face. It would be really interesting to see how insulting you can be in person... or should I say how insulting you would dare be in person. One day you are going to say something like the above to a client (after telling them they are ignorant) and they are going to knock the teeth out of your arrogant little mouth. (Or if they are an arch-con they will take you out with their concealed Glock which they keep in their Jockey shorts.) Yeah, you are surely the guy we should all be taking sales advice from. No doubt about it.

AL#3 you often make statements that most of your clients are very wealthy however you don't make a great income from your insurance work
.

Seeing as I only worked part of the year, I'm not complaining. I made good financial decisions in my life so don't spend any sleepless nights worrying about me. As I said earlier, I think that if I follow your "kick 'em in the ass until they sign" sales methodology I'm sure I will raise myself up from failure to success in selling.

Why don't you just target the middle-income people next year and see if it doesn't work much better for you?

I target the people I know... and the people I know are obviously not the people you know. Do you even know what you know? How about who you know? I know what I know but I'm not convinced you know what you know. You know?

Do you think those of us who aren't rich have cooties or something?

Wait a minute? You're a neo-conservative and you are not rich? Huh? Yet you are here giving others advice? Are you TRYING to look ignorant?

Dear Santa,
No need to stop at my house this year! I just learned how to put that little, green, arrogant, jerk YODA on my IGNORE LIST!

Just one favor Santa, PLEASE drop a BIG YULETIDE LOG down Yoda's chimney!
Just like the sailors of the USS Forrestal dropped one down his Mommy's chimney 9 months before the little green bugger was born!

I guess if I was an angry, bitter, violent, little failure of a man....I would want to blame people who are younger, successful, hard working, and smart too.
AL#3, I am happy that your Edward Jones full service broker helped you invest your inheritance wisely so you don't have to actually work for a living.
You are one scary broad!

More then likely.anyone that had that outfit in charge of investing their money has lost at least 1/3 to half of it in the past year and a half. Those idiots did not see the stock market crash coming even when it was already here. Their mantra same as all financial planners at the time was "I realize the stock market is starting to look scary MR Client but I do not think you should bail out of your mutual fund just yet, stay the course":1arghh:

Are you all of those? I don't believe you are any of those, but of course you will disagree as might others. Based upon what you post in this venue, I'll stick with my rather low opinion of your abilities and character knowing full well that hard-sell sales guys like you have no concern what men like me think of you.

It's all good.

Inheritance? Huh? My mother is 84, and while physically frail, is mentally sharp as she always was and manages her (mostly bond) portfolio rather well. She is also with Jones now, but was with ML for many years previously.

I don't know why so many of your fellow neo-con agents have such a low opinion of full-service brokers. Like insurance agents, doctors, lawyers, and every other service "profession" there are good ones and bad ones.

As for brokers, I use three different full-service financial advisors... one with Jones, one with LPL, and one who is completely independent. They all serve different purposes, come up with different ideas, choices, and buying opportunities and have done well for me. One (the LPL woman,) is a client.

Yes, I suppose it cost a bit more to use a full-service rep, but since I'm involved mostly with bonds, a few funds, and unit trusts, the cost is not much different than if I used Ameritrade (where I also have an options account and I use that when I want to buy those products. (I had a number of "lucky" puts when the market was last at 10,000. I got into calls around 8,000. I'm back in puts, now as I see a 7500 market again. If wrong, the losses won't be much. Options are like going to the casino and playing the big-wheel! The trick is to win big and lose small since you will "always" lose more often than win.)

Newby, I don't know how you can work full time in the ins. biz and still have time to manage your portfolio... unless as I suspect it is not very large or very complex and you are securities licensed.

You are one scary broad!

A comment like that shows me that you're just another junior college guy competing in a master's degree world. I guess you can do it selling simple FE, so I'd advise that you continue to stick with that. Obviously, your "beat the crap out of those old folks" technique is one that you have obviously mastered and which works well for you.

Let's end it here. Let's agree to disagree on everything except to agree that we don't like each other. (Don't be offended, I don't like 99% of the (greedy, arch/neo-conservative) agents on this board... and can only hope they feel the same about me. A lot of them DO know a lot about insurance are I value their contributions here... but would not want to have a long dinner at Ruth's with any of them as I can't take that much (political/social/philosophical) negativity in one sitting.)

I wish you continued success, a happy holiday season and a safe, healthy, prosperous 2010.

All politics aside...'cause that's a rut that only gets deeper and slimier the more you dig into it. How bad or uncompetitive are the AARP branded offerings from UHC?
I am not saying I agree with the AARP political mission, ideology, methodology or tactics, but just looking at the actual products' value to the customer relative to other players' offerings?
Leaving politics aside anybody who's done comparisons and knows something about the relative value of their plans care to comment?

Side note. How do you handle phone calls to someone who's sent back a reply card for "information" on Medicare Insurance Options etc, and yet refuses to set a time to review plans, etc finally saying "I just filled out the card so I can get something in the mail, otherwise I'm not interested"..CLICK!
I realize you are not going to sell 100% of those you first contact....somebody does in the end, somehow. I'd like to think you can sell damn near everyone you speak with over the phone (on the appt at least). There has got to be some magical words or phrases to use... any of you sales geniuses care to comment?
I understand the concept "of not losing control of the conversation"....obviously, I'm losing it somewhere, even after asking "probing, intelligent" questions such as how did you choose your current plan? Who is your insurer now, and what is your premium.
I mean com'on man, what are you supposed to say when they sent in a lead card FGS!

Med-supp rates in NW Florida are right up there with MoO as the least expensive in this area.

MA plans are on the top of the list in this area too.

I'm sorry was there a question?

And can anyone imagine if Yoda put this kind of effort into a career?

PS: The people in "real life" that you've mentioned are nothing like me, they're like your perception of me.
