Actually Verizon has (or had) a rebate deal where the 4g plug-in for wireless (modem) was free after rebate, with 2 yrs service at $ 49.95 per mo for that device. Like 5 gig of usage.

pop for the dongle... now that sounds like something that I saw in a B movie one time.

But you have to commit for 2 years. Too long. I'd rather buy the modem from ebay and have the freedom to change. The modem is $200 from Verizon so maybe at that price it might be worth committing but for under $50 I don't think so.
