Metlife and AGLAare other options to consider.
Do you have experience working with either?

You can also look at NYL, Mass Mutual, NW Mutual, Mutual of Omaha, or Prudential. The Prudential office is a bit farther away from me than I would have liked but they were one of the best ranked offices in NC. I chose to go independent and learn life on my own rather than go to Pru once I left Allstate. The other places are well known for consumers in the insurance field so you have a name that can back you up while you learn. Honestly I'm a bit of a masochist and decided this early so I don't know much about the other areas. Luckily Charlotte is huge and the offices are well funded, sometimes they are regional corporate offices so the big guns are there (for better or worse.)
The downside to those 4 is that I believe they are pretty captive (they have a brokerage to work through for a smaller amount of business) and want you to place most of the business with them first. The rates are not exactly the most competitive for some people, which we talked about. Someone might correct me as it has been a while since I looked at them.
American General can be represented as an independent agent, as can Metlife. However, I think you have better contracts for AGLA as a career agent. Also, you can get health benefits from any of the above after production has been shown and you are a true W-2 employee- take that as you want since you indicated you might want some independence and there is no independence like a 1099.
Add Guardian on to that list.
You know, I have YET to see a Guardian office. I don't even know if they do anything here in Charlotte. Though I never really looked. Good one to add to the list, though. I hear that supposedly there are ANICO offices around here (and I thought I saw one around my agency) but I never see them or hear from them, so maybe it is closed down.
Ohio National is non-career in this state, but they seem to do a decent job. I just don't do enough life around here to warrant pursuing them or Cincinnati.
You do not see Guardian Offices because they are not advertised as Guardian offices. The one in that area is Consolidated Planning. With Guardian you can market yourself and your agency it is not about marketing Guardian.
Consolidated Planning Inc.
I worked for them for seven years
