Actually, after further review, I stand corrected, I was out of the office the day the bulletin came out.

This has been formally announced by BCBS-SC:

August 09, 2010

Plan Changes and Updates

BlueCross BlueShield of SC has recently implemented changes required by the health care reform act. These changes will affect some plan benefits and quoting through Accel-A-RateSM for effective dates of October 1 and later. The following is a summary of the changes:

Individual
All individual plans are single contract only.
Quoting is only available for individuals over age 19.
Maternity riders are no longer available.
Accident riders are no longer available.
Benefits have been modified to conform to health care reform act.
Quoting for individuals under age 19 for an October 1 and later effective date should be available in early September.

All individual plans are single contract only

Not being argumentative, but isn't that a redundant statement? Kind of like saying family plans cover 2 or more individuals.

Originally Aetna did like BCBSGA. They rated the entire family based on the rate up of the "sickest" individual.

Didn't take brokers long to figure out, so the sick ones were put on separate apps.

Aetna got religion, then started applying rate up's to the sick ones only and kept the family intact.

Last year they started a composite family rate where the sickest individual was offset by the healthy ones that (supposedly) would result in a lower overall premium. It also was supposed to allow them to accept a sick person that would normally be denied if there was enough premium offset in the rest of the family.

That is the way it was announced in a meeting. I never saw it in actual practice.

But I can't see TV signals but that doesn't mean they aren't out there somewhere.
