Becoming an Independent Insurance Agent

I decided to reorganize my running list of companies that serve as insurance networks for independent agents. I decided to put them in order of their Web sites' Google ranking. I don't know what that indicates, but it shows which ones people are looking into most. Whether that means they are better than those beneath them on the list … I have no idea. There might be more companies I don't know about. (I don't have the required number of posts to present them as links, but you'll be able to find most of them through Google searches.)

The Iroquois Group
Superior Access
CPS Insurance Services
SIAA

TAPCO Underwriters, Inc.
SAN group - Satellite Agency Network
Keystone Insurers
Smart Choice
Insurance Noodle
Agent Secure
Agents Advantage
The ISU Network

NLink Suite (Networked Insurance Agents)
Deforest
Southern Insurance Group
Security Insurance
Global Green
Market Source

Any experts out there with experience and knowledge of these dare to sort them apples to apples and rank them accordingly?

Hello Forum,

In June of this year i passed my tests and now have my life and
health and P&C licenses, i need help and have found this site to be very informative, would like to share my story with you and have your honest opinion if you would be so kind, I am 35 years old, married two children 4&7, I was raised in southwest missouri on a farm, we worked hard and we had several different business growing up, my family have always had some type of small business, so at 22 i started my own as a farrier and blacksmith after 4 years a draft horse kicked me in the head, was very fortunate that my wife had just received her health insurance, on life went, my next business was small general store, i soon started selling bbq out of it, then turned it into a steak and rib house, from there i moved it to a bigger location and bigger town, i lost everything in 6 months, so i got a job in construction which put me on the road, i was gone from my family for 10 months, in this 10 months my brothers wife was killed in a car accident, her and my brother had no life insurance on each other, they worked for her mother and fathers company which they had insurance on her and they kept all the money, and my brother got the bills and his 2yr old son, so after he lost all the cars, the house, the land, i decided i was going to get into insurance and help people, to educate them on the importance of insurance, i found an independent agent in my town who is looking to retire in 5 years and has offered to sell me his book, which is some what small, he has been in business as an agent for 10 years, but has worked in insurance since 74, his was a travelers underwriter for 25 years, he handled mid size corporations with annual revenue of no more than 5mill,
since he started his own agency he really doesn't have to work, so there is no advertising, no marketing, so its like a new business in the since their is no buzz on the street for our agency, he is part of a cluster although i don't see the benefits of that so far, but i need my own book, before i can buy his book, after i took the test and got out on the street to sell i realized how much about insurance i didn't know and that i am a little fish swimming in big waters, i pray i didn't make a mistake in choosing this path, i truly wanted to help people in there business, and in there personal lives, any and all feedback would be greatly appreciated, look forward to corresponding with everyone

Re: Becoming a health insurance agent

This is great! What else do you think you need to do to become a successful agent?

Man alive, talk about run on sentences. This guy never heard of punctuation. Dorry, just too damn difficult to read. Just don't write a novel----you will compete with James Joyce! BTW welcome and good luck.

Ok, this posting was a while back. Now that the economy is crashing, do you think that the market is saturated with agents? What are some really good niche markets in this 2011 Texas economy?

Medicare Supplements are recession proof.

As far as the number of agents selling them, if an agent is an expert on the subject and will educate his prospects he will blow other agents out of the water who are simply trying to sell something.

Hi Frank
How much Commission do can you make selling one Medicare supplement plan. I have never sold one. Just mostly Individual Health Insurance.

Thank you

It's going to vary from state to state and company to company. Nationally most use a figure of around $300 per app. Med Supp companies typically pay first year commission for the first six years.

If you would like to give me a call I can be more specific to the state you plan to sell in, 573.544.4091.
