The Army sure turned my youngest son around. He's a responsible adult now.Who paid for the car quad? Who is paying for the repairs? How about all the electronics in his room or the smartphone? He is 18, I'll bet he says he is an adult and should be treated like one. We parents have created our own mess.
The military is a great option for some people. Not so much for others.
The best part of it for me was it got me away from my environment and gave me a couple years to get some of young man boy crazy out.
To put it bluntly, there is no good career for a "lazy, unmotivated" person of any age. That would especially apply to one where a person has to be a self starter with no time clock to punch.Back to your question. No. He would be horrible at working for himself at this time of his life.
As Wino says, "The military is a great option for some people. Not so much for others."... Didn't do much for me.. Went in with a chip on my shoulder, came out the same way."The Army sure turned my youngest son around. He's a responsible adult now.
I was perfect when I went in and perfect when I got out. lolAs Wino says, "The military is a great option for some people. Not so much for others."... Didn't do much for me.. Went in with a chip on my shoulder, came out the same way."
He was given a used car at 16 by his paternal grandparents and now will drive my deceased brother's truck.
My first car was a 52 Mercury I bought from a fellow airman.. Paid for it with Uncle Sam paychecks. I was 17 years old.I had a car at 16 also. I worked nights in a bowling alley cafe washing dishes to buy it and put gas and parts in it.
Does he get an allowance or money from others. Who pays for his weed? His insurance, cell, internet, gas, girls?
I know I sound like a hard ass. And I probably am.
Sounds like your nephew has it pretty easy. I want his life.
Military may be a good fit. Sounds like he is intelligent but to soft. Also, he has people around him to depend on. It is man thirty, time to learn to depend on yourself or your team. You carry your weight.
The problem with a local J. O. B. He can quit if someone is mean to him or says no.
In reading your post. It sounds like his aunt is who he should emulate.

I didn't get my own car until I got a job and moved out on my own. I bought my first car, a '69 red VW beetle, from my girlfriend. Later she married me. I'm still not sure if she married me for my boyish charm and good looks, or just because she missed her bug so much!My first car was a 52 Mercury I bought from a fellow airman..
