Can I replace an MA plan w/ med supp before Nov. 15

Another thing to consider is the guarantee issue when a MA plan is withdrawn form an area. In my area Coventry withdrew freedom one and sent letters to clients that they could go to freedom 1b for $42 more and a lot less benefits. these clients will all be eligible for guarantee issue med sups. But, if they do nothing Coventry will auto switch them to 1b. Ho:nah:w nice!!!!

So, are you saying the Coventry members that I have here where they are on $0 premium Freedom 3 now and Coventry is not going to have that plan for '09, but, will have a plan for $31 month that will put them in if they do nothing, those members will have a GI right to a med sup?

I've been told they won't because Coventry is not "leaving", just changing.

If they are actually dropping a plan that the client is in, yes they have a GI on a med supp. In the main county I sold in last year the freedom 1 is being dropped and replace with freedom 1b. In another county they are keeping the freedom 1 but reducing benefits on it. These client do not get a GI for a med supp. As the plan was not cancelled just changed.

Yes, it's being dropped. The letter the members are getting from Coventry is telling them that the plan they are on is not going to be available. If they do nothing, they will enroll them in the most similar plan and begin charging them $31/mo. If they don't accept that plan, they can enroll in another plan or dis-enroll. The members have to take some action or be enrolled in another plan automatically.
