Christian Health Ministries

The exemption Charlie, not the damn law.

The exemption is in the Law.

There are a few, but the two largest attract over 90% of the enrollees. They are Christian Health Ministries and Samaritan Ministries.

I think Christian Care Ministry's Medi-Share program is actually the largest Healthcare Sharing Ministry.

I had two highly educated (unrelated) families leave BCBS this year to join a Christian Health Ministry. They both are in the Medical field and did quite a bit of research before making that transition.

Why did the Obama administration bless Christian ministries with ACA approval, but not Muslim, Hindu, etc.. health associations?

Members of any and all Healthcare Sharing Ministries that meet the requirements are exempt. There is at least one that is not Christian.

----------

Not having to comply with the Affordable Care Act gives these Sharing Ministries a lot more latitude when it comes to paying medical bills. But common sense says that "payer latitude" is not something the patient wants, or needs, when many thousands of dollars is owed to medical providers. What the patient needs is the peace-of-mind that comes from being certain that the bills will be paid. The Affordable Care Act makes that certainty even more concrete than it was before the ACA became law.

Medi-Share does not have "payer latitude." Claims are paid according to the Guidelines which have been established by vote of the membership. The real "latitude" HCMs have is in the underwriting area.

Really?

Where?

Where are your manners, Somarco? You forgot to welcome CaptiveGuru to the forum, after challenging his very 1st post here.

A Christian forum discussion thread, and an article, where members discuss their Health Share Ministry experiences. Provides good insight as to how these sharing ministries operate and satisfaction/dissatisfaction levels.

Section 1501 Page 148

I am not yet allowed to post links here, so, to paraphrase the ACA:

The penalty for not having ACA-approved coverage applies to "Applicable individuals."

The term "applicable individual" shall not include any individual for any month if such individual is a member of a health care sharing ministry for the month.

I have been a member for over 5 years now. The cost of health insurance drove me to it.
I was paying over $1,000 a month for insurance. I have been paying $150 for chm. Yes, I placed the difference in a "health care" account and have loads of extra money for those deposits and other expenses.
The real problem with these can be if you are on meds for the long term. This is were one can really go in the hole.

Resurrecting a thread that is almost a year old. Get tied up in traffic?

Haven't paid much attention to CHM or any of the other sharing plans. Would never recommend them but understand the appeal (lower monthly dues vs premiums).

You say the money hole is Rx. No cost sharing or no cap on your OOP? Is the Rx just a discount card?

Decided to see what the web has about CHM. Whoa!

No Rx coverage unless you have the Gold plan.

$125 per illness/accident cap plus another $100k shared by members per year. (Unlimited sharing with Gold plan).

No OB coverage, only hospital charges.

Overall it has a lot of holes.

I'm still wondering if you could use a hospital indemnity plan and a critical illness policy to fill the holes.

Stupid health insurance is why my wife is still work and not at home with the baby. It will cost $18,000 a year for us to max fund an HSA.

Those were based off of last year's numbers without having a kid.

That's what I did. CHM Gold level with a CI policy.

The Christian cost-sharing health plans don't come with abortion coverage, and Obama has deemed it as Minimum Essential Coverage, so why are the Nuns unhappy?

Probably because most of these plans require folks to not be drinkers...
