Does anybody have any suggestions for clusters or MGA's in VA that have some good carriers for mediocre credit clients?
One catch or dumb question would I have to appointed through them or not since there a MGA?

Want to continue this thread - any suggestion on MGA's that will take new agents in Personal, not Commercial, P&C in MidAtlantic?

The Mid Atlantic Insurance referred above only does commercials.

I've been I. Talks with woodland financial group they seem to be decent from what I'm hearing , but so did my wife when I first met her ha

So, I too am curious and also live in Virginia. I looked at Woodland's site and they do represent the best indy carriers for this area and I read an article that mentioned a little about their splits.

Do you know if you have to have your own office? Own your book? Appoint with other carriers not with Woodland? Termination provisions?Who's name is own correspondence and if it is sent to client? Binding autohority, fees, etc... Any info you can provide would be helpful. If you feel inclined please pm me.

Do you have Donagal, they are appointing agents in VA. Look at agencyequity.com they have an ad, looking for agents.

Check out HH&B in Richmond. I met with them but declined the contract for other reason. Great establishment and fair contract with a good list of companies. They're fairly new, but seem to be set up well.

They look intriguing. Would you mind if I pm you to discuss? Do you know if they have an appetite for contracting captives with 20 years experience?

I was captive for over 15 years and decided to go Independent. After considerable research, I chose Smart Choice. They have a well rounded portfolio of carriers in Virginia for Personal lines and Commercial. Some of the advantages for me were: No up front fees, own 100% of your book, opportunity to earn 100% commissions, and no problem with succession.

For full disclosure, after becoming a Smart Choice Agency, I like the program so much, that I became a Territory Manager for Virginia.
