Damage at Gas Station

Here is a silly question. How can you have paid for your gas if the nozzle is still in the gas tank...I've had issues with some pumps not registering the pump being returned to the pump and the clerk could not complete the transaction....so if the nozzle is still in the tank how do you pay for your purchase?

You must be in one of the few states left that don't require that you pay BEFORE you pump it. Okay, the transaction doesn't complete till afterwards, but that is a non-event.

Good point there are fewer and fewer places letting you pay after pumping...I like them because I can walk in a grab a couple of items and have one charge hit the debit card instead of 2 its the same money but just seems easier to input 1 transaction...But even when I pay at the pump I stay with the friggin nozzle since most gas stations have rumoved the I'm not sure of the word but allows to to lock the pump on without holding the nozzle maybe thats to cut down on people driving away without paying...
