Dental Insurance For Seniors

I've been trying to sell Medico Dental for awhile now. Put out some yard signs. I get plenty of calls but nobody likes the waiting period. It's about the point I tell them about the $100 yearly deductable and that it;s not until year 2 you get 70% that they lose all interest and say goodbye

People want this in a dental plan:

[*]Low monthly rate
[*]No waiting period for major services
[*]No yearly deductible
[*]Truly insurance, not a discount plan

Not sure if this exists. I'm guessing no. Now that I've been appointed with Humana I guess I can sell their plan but haven't heard you guys say much good about it. Seems to have a really low rate but I'm guessing you get what you pay for.

Of course they want that and wonder why they would need to pay for coverage the whole year why not pay for 2 months a year 6 months apart for the cleanings or just pick up the plan when they need that orthadotia work.

Oh of course it's completely unreasonable but that's how tons of people are. Hmm, I need some teeth pulled, a root canal, and maybe some other stuff.......I better get dental insurance!

What do you mean I have to wait a year before I can use it to pay for this stuff I need done!?!?!?

They are so uninformed I honestly think they have the intention of "cheating" the system by paying 1 premium, using the $1500+ yearly maximum and get 80% covered, then just cancel and feel like they have made out like bandits.

People actually think they can do this. I've had them straight up ask me LOL.

What do you expect with Obammie saying that's exactly what they deserve.

Can seniors get dental insurance? If so can you guys recommend a carrier?

Yes they can but its almost never a better deal than paying for the services out of their pocket. The seniors who still have their own teeth and use preventive services such as cleanings, oral exam and x rays are are usually picky about about which dentist they use and prepaid dental plans will not have established reputable general dentist in network. When it comes to PPO's it's usaully a matter of trading dental premiums for benefits and with the usaul 1000.00 to 1500.00 benefit cap it just doesn't seem like the type of hazard worth insuring for.

I would not advise that you sell dental insurance to your book of business of med supp and ma customers because it can easily turn a happy customer in to a disgruntled once they get the EOB from the dental carrier and see that the carrier paid the " usal and customary" payment for an oral exam of $32.53 for billed charge of $ 95.00 for said exam..Or even worse when a prepaid dental plan client goes to to their new dentist for the first time for a routine cleaning and is informed after they get out of the chair they will be charged 300.00 for the " deep cleaning" the hygienist just spent 23 minutes doing.

I am asked about dental insurance all the time and usaully refer them to an agent I know that specializes in dental plans and doesn't sell med supps or ma and sometimes refers clients to me.If one of my clients is on a mission to get dental insurance and I dont want to sell it to them I prefer they call someone I know instead of looking in the yellow pages and possibly hooking up with an independent health agent that sells every plan from every company

That's a really smart strategy actually. You did your part by referring them to a dental agent but don't suffer the consequences if they are unhappy with a dental plan after having it a few months.

When new clients come into the office and ask about dental insurance I have to explain why buying individual dental is not always the best option. First, take the premium, now divide that into the max/year the plan will pay, that is your "rate of insurance" and it is very high compared to other insurances you must have such as health, life, home, and auto. Now, take the fact that before it covers anything serious you have to be into your second year of carrying the policy. Two years of paying $35/mo on a plan paying $1000/yr max.... does that make sense?
There are those that know they have a long road of expensive dental work ahead, for them, dental insurance makes sense, but for most of the population, stand alone dental ins. is not a good bet.

Or, I say to myself. My dental plan is $24/month. That gives me two free cleanings/exam/xray per year that would normally cost me over $200 easily. Anything extra it's overs and I'm already ahead. I had to get 3 fillings a couple of months of go and the plan covered 80% for my fillings. Win for me IMO

Puppy, Spirit plans have no waiting periods but use a graded benefit for major services. Agent site looks easy to navigate.

I don't sell much dental but might be worth adding.

Did the online sign up. They only pay 8% on individual. That's a bummer.

I agree with you. I too have dental and use the benefits and i come out ahead every year.
I have many many supp. customers on my medico dental and they love having the peace of mind, yes it has waiting periods but they all do and crowns are now 900-1200 bucks for one, saving at least 50% is better then zero.
