Depression meds - the most prescribed drugs in the US

The healthiest clients I have are the ones who take the fewest pills...........

What gets me are the commercials. Ever wake up tired? Ever feel like you could not focus? Ever feel alone? Take this...

LOL - Chris Rock tell the same type story about commercials. "do you go to bed at night and wake up in the morning? Then this drug is for you!":D

I also like when he says "We don't need gun control, we need bullet control - make bullets cost $500/shot and you won't see a lot of drive by shootings".

The ads for drugs are out of control. I do not want to know about herpes, and I do not want to explain it to my son.

Forget the birds and the bees, now we have the pills and the creams.

I was watching tv with my 11 year old brother and a viagra commercial came on. It was a very wierd moment. Why is it that they can't market cigarettes but ED meds are okay?

Why would a doctor not recommend an anti-depressant? He is building a client base right?

I look at it this way:

You own a sub shop and want to attract new clients, so what do you do? Put out flyers, coupons, maybe coupons which offer a two for one. Here, come in this week and use a two for one with a friend, odds are then if you like our food you'll be back again...to pay full price!! The coupon is a prescription from your doctor saying, take these pills for a month, then come back and see me and I'll let you know if you should continue to take them. Then we'll do it all over again from month to month!! I'm your doctor, trust me on this!

This is a business people!! Drug companies are in business to make money! Doctors are in business to make money (and help people while doing it I hope). The more you get a client through the door the more money you make.

My wife's doctor wouldn't write her a contraceptive prescription after our last child born without her going to see him!! She has been on the same pills for years prior, but the clinic said she had to come in....we found a new doctor!!

I needed to get a document signed last year stating I was in "good health" and not "physically impaired" so my wife could get her daycare license. My doctor said I had to be seen and have a full physical before he could sign it....I found a new doctor!!

See a pattern here? And you wonder why insurance premiums continue to rise at such a rapid pace!

Ahhhhhh, I need a beer!

Just understanding that can help you make decisions. My wife says no to prescriptions when she sees her doctor. I have a very mild case of acne rosacea - which is just a reddening of the face.

The first quack I saw prescribed something called Metrogel....until I looked it up on the web and saw that it would worsen my condition since it contained a steroid and is addictive. I confronted him and he said "it might temporarily improve your condition but then, yes, you would have to stop taking it. I fired him - which means just going to see someone else. I also had no problem telling him he shouldn't be practicing medicine - which he apparently didn't like hearing.

My new dermatologist gave me his opinion - use mild soap without any perfumes, drink less since alcohol makes the condition worse, and food to avoid. I didn't hear any of this from the quack I saw before.

So I went from a $180 cream that would have harmed me to mild soap. The point is doctors are no different then any other profession. You have great ones and unethical whores.

My wife and I are part of a "supper club", 15 couples that rotate homes each month and have a pot luck party. Some of the group are docs. One of the docs is a pretty good friend and a surgeon. Last year I needed colon surgery, went to him for a consult but decided to have it done by someone else. The couple were annoyed we made that decision, and I commented to my wife , " I wonder if John comes home and shares with the wife, got a good case today, or lost a good case (worth 5-6000) come to find out it does happen, it is a business.

You're right Al, I do not have any formal education in medicine,

I do not like to be rude or disrespect others, but now have to point something out. .... I suggest you get out of insurance because you make people like me look bad.

If you ask me you're doing a good job all on your own.

Al
