DM Responders Question

An educational seminar talking about social security, taxes etc... An opener for annuity sales

Is that what you put on the flyer?

Just pulling your leg man. I do social security seminars as well, and yes I do uncover problems that call for a fixed or indexed annuity recommendation.

What's easier....annuity mailers vs seminars? I don't know about doing steak dinners for everyone, but do people come? How do you market, etc for seminars?

There are still guys out there that spend $5 to $20 grand and up each month on seminars that are out there killing it doing nothing but selling annuities. I believe that that is the only way to "buy" your way into the annuity business by spending on marketing.

I personally do free education seminars on social security and Medicare with organizations that can draw the crowd without any of my money.

I am lucky to have the luxury of being able to live comfortably on my Medicare renewals, so that I can focus on building more and stronger relationships with centers of influence.

After about 6 months I started seeing results, and presently one year after changing my business model I am starting to have 2-4 meetings per week with the type of client that I want to work with. My goal is to have 10 or more meetings every single week with an "A" client.

I've talked to people about their experience with annuity DM and it was bad. I guess these type of prospects do not mail back solicitation mail piece. I'm going to experiment with a seminar at a local library so the upfront cost is relatively low. No full meals. I'll update after I do it

I know I may be naive, but I would think the benefits of annuities would peak interest rather than DM using general Changes to SS, etc.
Have any of you done just postcards with clients calling you instead of sending reply card?

I am not suggesting Social Security mailers either(another thing that I have lost money on)

Don't take this the wrong way, because I learned all of this the hard way as well , but annuity premium is not written in the same way that FE is, by doing mail drops, setting appointments, and dropping by their house and selling a policy. If that would work there would be an EFES type group for annuities that you could sign up with.

Most people could care less about the benefits of an annuity. That want someone who knows what the hell is going on with all of these confusing issues before, during, and after retirement. If you can help them through the process they will ask you what to do with this annuity card that they got in the mail.

A good way to advertise for these is local newspaper inserts,. I printed out the flyers myself and had a decent turnout way cheaper than DM.

I understand that it's way different than FE appt, etc.
When I look at benefits of annuities, I'm surprised that people don't know anything about them....and their FA isn't talking about them either.
So...what's the best way to get the message out? Using DM focused on govt changes? Seminars? Etc.?

As far as advertising in local paper....I've heard that many focus on MYGA's showing superior growth, etc to CD's. Is this profitable with MYGA commissions being around 2%...or does this usually lay foundation to look at other safe money alternatives?

What is your current area of expertise?

Medicare, health and life...making transition into retirement. I understand a lot about retirement planning...just need guidance on marketing, etc. I've sold annuities, but this came through Medicare business.
A lot of what I see in Medicare makes me want to help people earlier...like ages 40 up

I have a very similar background, what has put me in the right direction is adjusting my medicare marketing to target people people that are getting ready to retire and help them not only with a supplement that I can get paid on, but also when and how to apply for Part B, as well as how to maximize social security, . This is also the time that people also start to think about rolling over their 401k. I am not too proud to bring in a financial adviser on most cases either, and in return I am brought in to cases when I can help, although I have referred out enough assets in the past 12 months that I am studying for my securities license.

There are a ton of referral sources out there if you look for them, and I have found that referrals are much more open that people that sent in a lead card for a free brochure.
