Doctors Revolt...!

If you want an oil change you're gonna pay what...$20 or so? Would you pay $1,000 to get your oil changed because the person changing it rebuilds cars?

There are a lot of medical services that don't require someone who went to 4 years of medical school with 3 years of residency.

If my son breaks his finger, why does it have to cost $2,000 at the ER? Why can't it cost what it's actually worth to fix it - like $100-$200.

The hospitals have to come up with the money somewhere to build those big elaborate building with miles of landscaping and tons of open space. We had a new one like that built here. You get your exercise just walking from the parking lot into the building. Then it is another long walk to an actual room and half the place is still empty ten years after it was built.

And there's absolutely no problem with that at all as long as it's a competitive system with transparency.

Hospitals/doctors should compete for my business just like everything else. Sure there are emergencies where people can't choose - shock trauma, heart attacks, etc...But what percentage of hospital admissions do those make up....

What will happen to the Medical Profession when the Dr's. (many who are quiting because of the ever present problems with collecting and making money now...collecting payments from Insurance Co's)....

...have to deal with getting paid by the Federal Gov. for services rendered ? ? ?

Look out below...!

Could not get into read the article, but my understanding is if abc insurance company has sold you a policy on the exchange and is collecting a subsidy towards your premium, is that insurance company will handle the claims just like always. I have never heard that the govt will handle any claims.

It will be interesting to see how long doctors and hospitals wait to get paid when the 90-day premium grace period becomes law on all subsidized individual health plans in 2014.

Not to be overly sympathetic to doctors, but there has to be a logical reason for the way they run their practice. They have to see 20-30 patients a day at 10 mins a pop and they still end up making JUST 250k to 300k per year. Its rare to find a medical professional that breaks the 500k barrier without being a top level surgeon at a hospital. The average PCP is struggling to maintain his practice and see his patients in a halfway helpful manner. Specialists have fewer patients and have to do a lot of specialized testing in order to earn a decent income. Despite appearances, I think doctors are struggling income wise. Its gotta get worse for them after 2014. More patients and less money.

Could Medicare and Medicaid reiumbersment levels have anything to do with it? Last time I went to my Drs office there were 4 other people waiting to be seen all seniors.

Wouldn't raising MLR, higher premiums, more insured people and less limitations on plans only line up providers to make a killing?

Wouldn't more people in the waiting room keep the doctor from spending much time with each patient?

Wouldn't government imposed limitations on provider payments give a doctor an incentive to see more people but not spend as much time with them?

There is absolutely nothing the government has ever done with health insurance that works, and that includes Medicare.

We should let the free market deal with seniors. I bet carriers would line up to insure 75 year olds at affordable rates.

Forget med supps - price it up for them to pick up the whole tab.

I agree with John. The government should pay for everything and everyone. No reason to just stop with seniors.

Medicare is bankrupt now and getting worse. Let's just stop pretending that government insurance doesn't work.

Everything for everyone.
