Door Knocking Aged Leads

When I first started (it wasn't that long ago...ahem), someone told me to buy internet leads. So, I did, from a site that has a bad reputation on here. I quickly got overwhelmed with trying to call all the leads quickly and consistently over a period of time, so I went to direct mail.

Long story short, about 3 months later I picked up the old leads. I made several nice sales out of that - in fact my first sale of over $2,500 in premium was made with door-knocking an old internet lead. For a newbie - this got me excited about insurance. Turns out the prospect typed their phone number in wrong - they though it was odd that they never got a response from the website. LOL!

I think we all know the answer - since you are working and prospecting, it'll be just another method to get in front of someone, and you'll make sales.

Good story. I will mix a few in with my DM leads and see how it goes..

Has anyone tried to Door Knocked Aged Internet leads?
I door Knock DM leads with a lot of success and also have Cold Door Knocked and had success in rural areas.
I was considering adding Aged Internet Leads to my marketing. I sell Medsupps and FE so it would be the over 65 market.

Has anyone tried this, and if so what are some of the problems they have had.

It is certainly a mixed bag. While I no longer do this, I can tell you that two of my largest cases ever written came off of "door knocks." Long story short, I think there *are* many possibilities in such a selling environment because (a) the customer/client likes that a producer showed the initiative to stop by, and (b) these are the people who don't answer the phone... EVER; and that's pretty good news for your retention, too!

One tip: Make sure you are HONEST! Don't tell them "you just happened to be in the neighborhood." Tell them you're committing the day to helping the people who you can't seem seem to connect with on the phone. The first sounds like they were an afterthought, whereas the later makes them feel more special.

Make no mistake, you will get the occasional, "What? You're THIS hard-up for business? BEAT IT, Skippy!" Pay them no mind! Instead, make the most out of those leads... then invest some cash in a *real* marketing plan. It's great that you want to make the most of those leads, and deliver the service to clients. However, it makes for a looooooong and boring career, IMO.

Good luck!

Door knocking for life insurance well have to say I never tried that before. I did do door to door on business insurance.

.

I have a question. When you say "Cold door knock", do you mean just walking up to a door , no lead, no appointment set , no info... no nada?
I ask because I am planning to incorporate a fair amount of this very prospecting technique. Is it a viable way to go? Just pick out the neighborhood and knock away?
It seems like most people say they do cold calling ; but, they have some kind of lead or appointment or something beforehand
Does the STRAIGHT COLD DOOR KNOCK approach work?:err:

I would pull a list off sales genie of T65 mail them a flyer letting them now who I am and that I will be contacting them...I also ad a pic of me to the flyer...then 2 to 3 days after they receive it I go to the door...

Have you ever done (or know of anyone who does) the straight cold approach?

I have done in the past but only as a self punishment because I was too stupid that week not to get any referrals, and not sticking to my work smart not hard ideology.

I now semi do it when leaving a call and my clients neighbors are sitting on their front porch and I approach them and introduce myself. Being in the south has its advantages as this behavior is except able as being neighborly. Of course I already have information about them from my clients and generally they will want to know whose the strange car in the drive. I suppose you could call it a warm door knock. This has usually given me some more suspects names and telephone numbers to work on.

:D:D:D

That's probably part of my motivation!! (12 years of Catholic school)

The pain and the suffering I don't mind...
my main concern is DOES IT WORK? :err:

Does it work...? Are you referring to Catholic School or cold calling... :D Both is the answer.

Having been a product of that 12 yr sentence myself, it certainly works although not without some baggage, as anyone knows who has been there.

Cold Calling... well it may also leave some baggage for certain personality types; some can do it well, most are poor to fair at it, and some are just too frightened to think of such an endeavor. IT WORKS... plain and simple. You can be the worst technique person in the world and you will still make sales if you get in front of enough people. Plain and simple mathematics. OR, you can be the best salesman in the world and get before No One, and you will sell NOTHING. Funny how that works.

Most folks you will call on will have that natural sales resistance and not want to be bothered with the intrusion. You merely engage them in convo long enough and that wall will come down for some, not all. If you bang on enough doors your technique will improve and you will see that the majority of folks are pretty decent to you, even the ones that do not partake in your schtick. So the best advice is to: GOYA... [get off your duff] and go out and door knock often, as it is an acquired skill set and like any skill you must use it dimishes over time...

** Achievement Note: I was the first one in my 4th grade class to successfully memorize and recite the Latin responses required by the Mass Servers to the [HMFDIC] Nun, therein allowing me to be the first in the class to trapse around on the alter with the water, wine and candle sticks, aka serving Mass. As a 4th grader in Catholic School, this was a pretty big deal... at the time. [YAWN] :goofy:
