Final Expense Telesales Tips

They have oxford for that and while I do not use Oxford I have been told they are extremely easy to work with.

@Newby are your guys writing a lot of Oxford these days?

Up until last year we wrote more Oxford than any other IMO in the country. Our Oxford production in 2019 only went down a little but several other larger IMOs passed us up.

I guess you would say for Oxford we write a lot. But overall for our agency it's not huge. We have never written over 1-million in a year with Oxford.

Oxford is a little bit like Settlers was with me. I have a LONG history with them and like the people a lot there. But they have several issues that really hold them back from being a big player. The biggest one being that they only have preferred or nothing. There is no graded or standard product. So agents can only place a portion of their business there. And when they started doing true SS draft dates they didn't include the 1st or the 3rd. Agents hate strange decisions like that. If they would just look at their product from the agent's point of view they could fix their product and be a huge player. But they choose to be a niche player.

I am getting a later than usual start today. So I am just reading my emails and inbox.

Cracks me up how many of these F2F, now phone, companies and agencies are suddenly talking about 'smile and dial'. Hopefully when this "new normal" settles down they will continue to put resources toward modernized methods. Phone and internet sales are not for everyone of course but it is for many people.

"Smile and dial" is what we used to say when I was a young agent. Of course, we weren't trying to sell by phone. But all the new agents had to be in the office cold calling for appointments for 2 hours Monday evening and 3 hours Saturday morning. Those were some grueling sessions. We'd grin and say, "Smile and dial!" when we could see a buddy starting to go under.

I'm still in experimental mode, hoping to get back to normal sooner rather than later. But if this selling by phone thing works out, I can see myself gravitating in that direction at least a couple days per week.

All the haters who bashed telesales are now all of sudden gurus... and in some cases SELLING THEIR "SYSTEM".

Insanity.

Preface *

When this all settles into whatever our new normal will be. People will be changed forever. Some more than others.

I believe some companies will go back to F2F or a hybrid model. Same with independent agents. However, as I think a lot of established agents were changing or looking into changing to a more mobile modal already, the move to mobile will be accelerated.

I remember this little fly by night company in the 80s, The 80s, that was going to try to sell Term insurance by phone. No internet back then for the masses. Those dunces were using ads in Newspapers. I, of course, worked for a Big Mutual, we scoffed at them.

I wonder if SelectQuote ever made it?

LOL....so true! Did I hear someone say JD was now doing tele-sales?

I wonder if more agents will wake up to the beauty of "as earned" commissions from this too. Many agents who take max advances on everything don't put it back for rainy days. Having the monthly as earned income stream definitely gives you a buffer from stuff life can throw at you.

Ive always felt like going on advance was better. I wish they'd pay a 12 month advance in some scenarios.

Yes, you must budget correctly, but during a time like this, the smart agent who budgeted on advance has a larger nest egg.
