Just a simple question for the veterans. When setting an appointment over the phone do you always leave your phone number with the prospective client?
Thanks!

I do. If they are going to cancel I want to know before I drive the 40+ miles to their house. Aint nothing worse than burning $10 in gas just to be porched.

My feelings exactly. I give them my phone number and explain to them, if something comes up with me and I either can't make it or I'm going to be late I will call because it would just be wrong not to, don't you agree? Once they agree with that, I give them my phone number and ask thme for the same courtesy in return. They've already admitted it would be wrong to not call.

The reason you give the phone # is

If they call to cancel and not reschedule, it was not a real appointment to begin with.

Time is our most valuable resource.

Of course some folks will say you are throwing away an opportunity.

I can say I have walked out of many appointments saying that was a total waste of time, or been stood up since they did not have my number.

So its really all about qualifying the prospect before you go.

Anytime Ive given my number they have canceled. I dont give my number anymore, unless it was a reschedule from a no show.

Good point. Time spent driving is so important. Getting your point across about communication will help both of us.:nah:

I used to feel the same way until being porched 100 times and a few times even knocking at the door and them telling me "oh, i was going to call to cancel but i didnt have your phone number...and I'm not going to let you in my house..."

It took me a long time to learn to qualify people on the phone and make quality appts (and to some degree I feel I am still learning) but giving these people my number so if something does come up they can call to cancel/reschedule has saved me a fortune in gas money.

I don't give my phone number and can't remember being asked for a number.

That's been close to my experience. I'd rather get porched a few times than have folks call to cancel a bunch more. I noticed that if I focused more on getting a firm appointment then it wasn't much of an issue.

If you are getting porched a bunch, work on how you're setting appointments. It can be tricky, but well worth it.
