Golden Rule/ United Healthcare Won't Be in the Exchange

Seriously Do You Guys Really Think Golden Rules Not Gonna Play In The Exchange With Big Blue? Really ? Serious Question.

I can't understand why any carrier would want to write HIX business if it were not required. It is pretty obvious that BX will write the lions share any way so why not let them have it all?

If I were running any of these carriers that would be my game plan.

They already mentioned that they may participate in only 10 exchanges. To go to 0, is quite easy as they continue to get more guidance.

Why would any insurer want to participate in the exchange?
It will attract the unhealthy, lower income, push back on what they can charge, inflexibility in benefit design make up, dealing with the federal/state gov't systems & screw ups, and insurers take all the risk if they under price the product.

Vs. outside, design benefits and price without oversight from the gov't, attracting higher income, and healthier people. Plans outside must still meet EHB's and have GI

UHC-Golden Rule = MAXIMUM of 25 exchanges.

Humana = MAXIMUM of 10 exchanges

Aetna = MAXIMUM of 15 exchanges

From an insurance company standpoint, why would ANY of them want to participate in a program where they have to pay exorbitant fees and endure HHS's bullying, just to enroll the fastest shrinking income group in America? The Middle Income/Middle Class sector of the U.S. is being decimated by a crappy small-biz climate, taxes that are creeping ever higher and inflation that outpaces pay-raises.

They will be forced to enroll people with the highest medical costs and riskier lifestyles, yet not be able to increase premiums (due to HHS's exchange restrictions) to offset the many BILLIONS of dollars worth of charges that will quickly accrue.

What insurer in it's right mind wants to subject itself to so much agony? Maybe the ones that enjoy PAIN? (the bdsm types)

So what happens now? Humana keeps talking how they are all in, but surely they are smarter than to participate in this madness.

The Webinar is the very latest information. I would go with what was said there, if UHC/GR is stating that this is a nationwide decision. (I was never able to get it to play. Have downloaded the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack and will give it another try.) However, I still find it strange that there is no reference to this bombshell decision from the nation's largest health insurance provider anywhere on the web.

Esteemed Colleagues,

This Webinar was hosted by Go To Meeting. If you're not able to view the presentation, you need to download & install the GoToMeeting proprietary Codec. Here is the GTM page for downloading and installation instructions: Install GoToMeeting Codec - GoToMeeting

After installing, I'm now able to view and hear the presentation. (Note: Says that it will not work on Macintosh computers.)

Having a Kerry moment.

They were for the exchanges before they were against them.

They MIGHT have changed their mind again. The link to the webcast is now removed and disabled. Now we know why they wouldn't put anything in writing. Sebelius is probably working them over, as we speak.

As a sidenote: Anything posted in this forum is reaching the very top of Google search very quickly. Lots of exposure that can be good, or bad.
