Gone Are The Days Of Dental Health Insurance?

Probably more so.

Funny how folks will not flinch at spending $80/mo (family) for dental insurance even though the coverage is limited on major stuff but will balk at paying $500 for a family plan that covers everything they need. I have clients who buy dental but don't have and won't buy health insurance.

Go figure.

On average people pay more out-of-pocket each year on dental than they do on medical. When you think about that it makes good sense.

I sell a lot of the dental add onns with Humana, United, and Aetna. These are not discount plans. I have had no complaints thus far.

SOMARCO, how do you feel about these DMD plans?

The problem I hear is that most of the add-ons work well for preventative, but lack when getting past that type of service.

A DHMO will be about the same price per month and work much better overall. Plus, as somarco said, it can give you another line of coverage which will help keep the client with you. When they shop their medical at least they will shop with you. Dental doesn't get shopped that often with individuals.

The problem is like a lot of insurance products, people wait until they have a problem before purchasing it. With waiting periods for most major services, that may not do them a lot of good.

I am also surprised by how many only want dental/vision, but no health insurance.

Just put them into $10 a month plan and tell them to put the difference towards the discounted fees.

Most dental have terrible annual limits.

I have a decent one for only $30 a month per family - but it has a $500 max, but a few freebies and the rest is discounted.

Unless it's group - stand alone dental plans suck. I beg someone to post one that's affordable, provides decent coverage and has a decent annual max.

I finally quit being stupid about dental and decided to give folks what they want. If you know where to look, and know how to sell, you can find a plan that does exactly what they need.

I have access to over 50 different dental plans. Each one has a specific purpose.

You are right, a lot of people don't go to the dentist until they have an issue. Look at Assurant Employee Benefits DHMO. There are no waiting periods, so that isn't a problem. It also comes with a vision plan.

I do seem to remember somarco not liking the link they supplied him with, but I am sure he read my post in response and that isn't an issue any longer. Most agents I know think AEB has the best DHMO.

Bottom line is dental is a hot product right now and if you aren't selling it you are missing the boat.

For the price - that Assurant is an excellent plan.

The states are limited though. Who do you use in the other States?

What type of GA / MGA contract can one get?
