I'm looking to break in to the industry myself is there any tip you could give someone looking to open a new agency?

Eric.... I am not new to the industry just new to being an independent agent. If I were breaking into the industry I would find a good captive to work for to make sure I liked the industry so as to limit my financial exposure as much as possible and to make sure this is what I want to pursue as a career. Committing to your own agency takes money and time, and a lot of both.
I had eight years with a captive and some prior exposure to that on a part time basis. It is a good business but can be very challenging as well. If I were to specialize it would be in Med Supps, LTC and Life and health. There is a lot less maintenance than in the P&C market.
