Has anyone had an issue selling Medicare?

Ok well maybe it's the generation or who knows. I'm baffled. All I get from the elderly or old people that I encounter is hate negativity and immaturity. I've never encountered this much rudeness and abuse in my life or in any profession. Most sales jobs people are pretty responsive to friendliness and being nice and most humans have some semblance of basic respect. There is something wrong with these very old people and they react with absolute unjustified irrational hatred and disrespect. About three percent are nice. I used to have customers say things like " I'm so glad you're my agent- other agents I've talked to treat people like dirt" and they were thrilled to encounter an agent who actually cared in some way or was nice to them. Most people spoke to you as a human being but not these people. Its a contempt and hatred that makes no sense. Talking to people who behave in such a rude abusive way is not easy.

These elderly are nothing but hateful vile full of so much anger arrogance. it's shocking. They lack any basic respect and proceed to behave in the most immature and rudest way possible. Talk over you cut u off repeated times talk in circles pretend to not hear you but they do, and cut u off rudely at some odd time. They won't let u do ur job or help them and treat u in a manner that is unheard of. Narcissistic entitled extremely mean. Most will try to dominate me in some abusive hostile way and hang up or yell at me. Yes I'm repeating myself but I guess I'm just in shock still. It makes no sense. Have many of these people lost their minds because of their age. Who knows.

All the agents I work with or have ever worked with were really kind respectful professional people. I've never had issues with clients being rude either or agents. There are a few agents who act like jerks Or brats in another department but Even they are ok. I can't believe that such a large number of customers can be one type of rude hostile person but they are.

What's amazing to me is that you are literally the ONLY person who is having this "experience". And you obviously aren't listening to any of us who are replying to you. I think I agree with Chazm and/or Todd here.

In order to sell to them you have to sell your soul to them. if you are kind and positive they treat you with contempt and hate. They dominate people rudely and possess a level of meanness no person does really. They are also energy vampires and steal your energy and soul in the most awful way possible. The second they realize you're full of good energy and positive they do anything to take it. I always knew elderly were energy vampires not all bc I've encountered many in person who are very nice. But there's something about the weirdos my company markets to and it's the most awful negative people you can imagine. They are fake and weird and the amount of negativity they possess is really not bearable. I really feel sorry for anyone who has to encounter these people and their negative angry selves. There are so many of them.

I'm not the only person who encounters this. Others have had issues with people like this along with other agents. It might be worse with me bc I'm extra nice and kind so the rude jerks think they can treat me badly. They're like playground bullies rather than mature good people. By the time I'm done talking to them they've drained my energy and soul and it's 98 percent of them. how much contempt can u possess really I mean gosh. They talk over me constantly and won't let me do my job why- bc I'm sweet and kind I mean really. These are not educated normal people they're low class trash people who are also elderly. If u sell under 65 u don't encounter these kinds of negative crazy people. What a joke for any good decent person to have to deal with this.

Jennifer, are they as negative as you? Every comment you make is draining, but humorous because you don't see the negative attitude you have about everything and anything you encounter. Let them vent. If they are teeing off on you and you don't listen, you are no better then the last person they spoke with. Empathize with them, find out about their Aunt Maude, let them curse the system...then give them some homework for your next visit. let them write down their meds, their physicians, problems they have encountered...and set out to fix as many as you can. I've sold thousands and thousands of medicare policies, and have spoken to tens of thousands of elderly folks. Either you're doing something wrong, or you're interpreting things wrong and being a bit oversensitive. If talking to old grandmas and grandpas who have questions about their medical coverage is too terrifying for you, I'd suggest going into another industry. Yes, grumpy old people do exist. I'd say at a minimum, 90% of the elderly folks I talk to are pleasant and are incredibly grateful when I am able to help them save money or get them additional benefits. The idea that every old person is some angry monster is just ridiculous. If I had to guess, you may just be an extremely sensitive person who thinks the world is out to get them. Find a new career path, maybe something that wouldn't require you speaking with clients. Sales requires thicker skin, it's not for you.

You can talk all day long about how nice and professional you are, but it is clear that you have a complete disdain for this market. No amount of fakery can hide that level of dislike. Time to find a new market.

I am young and focus almost exclusively on the Medicare market and the "crazy" or "mean" ones are few and far between.

these aren't grumpy old people. Even if they cursed me out for five minutes I could handle it. These people talk over you in copious amounts won't let you even talk, dominate u extremely, speak to you in the most negative meanest tone possible, start insulting you on purpose, ask u to repeat yourself just to be jerks but hear u just fine, act obnoxious immature crazy mean, ooze negativity towards you, reject you just to be really mean to you, yell at you in the meanest way possible. They want to be super mean and abusive to u and show it. they ruin your self esteem and soul and more. However once in a blue moon I don't understand them and if I ask them to repeat themselves in a nice genuine way they respond with anger and talk super loud angrily and annoyingly. Very narcissistic rude mean weird people. Yet they can purposely make me repeat myself ten times for fun like children. They are narcissists on another level and it's something I've never heard of.

Most customers tend to be glad to encounter a kind agent, rep etc. they generally will show or say it. Not everyone is nice and there are jerks sometimes but the people in this situation are mostly awfully rude mean people extreme jerks, hostile, immature, belligerent, arrogant loud, obnoxious, rude and want to fight dominate and reject people. I just didn't think anything like this could ever come from a group including older people.
