Hired to Sell P&C, Can I Sell Life on the Side?

I never got an actual answer to the original question. If I did write business on my own on the side, would a current employer be notified or able to see what I have written?

Probably not, but if you're employer doesn't want you doing it then you should either write it through then or leave the job.

Have you read your contract? Does it allow you to represent L&H products other than their company? I am asking because you mentioned the employer hired you strictly for P&C. Do you have a contract that requires that you only sell their L&H? I would think that you are not required to turn over business acquired before being hired. Without non-compete clauses, I think you can sell any other L&H on your own time. Before you move on that, however, get an attorney to review your contract.
