How does someone even sell insurance anymore

Most successful agents I talk to retain middle market (50-100+k in premium) commercial accounts around 8 to 10 years

I think this is where you're running into the issue. You're trying to take over business of the clients that we all want - Fiercely loyal. I think @Markthebroker has a great script of how to get y our current clients to provide you with referrals. If I needed more business, I'd use his process to grow.

Yeah because the small accounts aren't profitable for the producer (maybe the agency moreso). By the time all the service work gets done the small accounts barely make us any money. No one wants the small stuff anymore. And its hard to get referrals when you have barely any clients.

What your words tell me, are that you like selling and helping people, but are in the wrong market, where you can make a good living! I have been in the Life & Health business for approx 42 years, and like others it has been a up and down sales market. Mostly the upside in making a good living! I would suggest that you make a change to the L&H side. Good Luck in whatever you decide.

Is it really unprofitable to work small accounts? That's my particular niche and while I have been putting in more hours than I'd like to, my income still exceeds $100/hr. Being that "no one wants small stuff", I have been able to generate more referrals than I can handle. I am able to choose who I want to work with and also fire those that I don't. I also out-produce my peers that solely work on the $100k+ revenue cases, but they golf a hell of a lot more than I do.

It is for me - I don't get any renewal commission on small stuff. This industry is better for old people that have been kissing ass for years and years. Terrible for a young person. But of course everyone just brags like they make thousands of dollars every day even though no one really believes them.

The guy is making $100 per hour and you are slamming the small stuff? Your attitude says you need to find a different line of work..

Maybe he makes 200 an hour. Or 300 an hour. I dont really care how much he makes. He does life insurance which I'm not interested in... and the small stuff is just not cutting it. I'd rather go blow a 100 dollar commission at the casino or something. But revenue in the thousands is worth it.

lol, 90% of my income is P&C. I used to make about $200/hr. pre-COVID but I lost staff so my per hour income went down but my annual income is up. It's all a numbers game. I get paid for what I produce, you may not since your contract is different from mine. I guess this forum isn't able to assist you with your singular focus

I can give you the names of a dozen agents under age 40 netting 6 figures after expenses(some over 250k). Now, there are hundreds more that didn't make it. Successful agents or business people do the things that the unsuccessful either can't or won't do. You need to make that decision, none of us can do that for you
