How Is Your AEP going?

I am to the point now that I almost resent my clients for asking me to review their coverage. I keep telling myself that my clients did nothing wrong, CMS has simply screwed us.

This is likely my last year dealing with this. I'll either leave voluntarily, or more likely CMS will stop even allowing us to help seniors with these plans.

I can no longer earn a living simply by servicing clients and the $20-30 I get for helping a new client doesn't pay for my time.

Since when was selling insurance a "loss leader?"

Rick - You couldn't have said it better about the PDP's. I tried to tell some of my clients to just call 1-800-Medicare, that they could help them find the best plan for 2009. Some of them did try and weren't very happy with the service, other clients said they wanted me to do it, why can't you do it, others agreed to call Medicare but you could hear in their voice that they weren't too happy with my suggestion.

I've been trying to help as many as I can, but I'm not making any money considering the time i put in, postage, etc. I'm with you, I don't know if I'll be doing this next year unless there are some changes made. One of my clients sent me a check for $40 (I sent it back) He said he wanted to pay me for my efforts and he wanted to make sure that I would be around for next year. Even the clients can sense things aren't right.

I think there are going to be alot of unhappy retirees in 2009 when they go to use their prescription plans. Alot of these people bought directly from the insurance carriers with no agent to service them. MAYBE when there's a backlash about being stuck in a prescription plan for a whole year that isn't right for the client the government will take this ridiculous rule of 12 month lock in and drop it.
