I Need Help!

The first time I was considering going into insurance sales I hooked up with an independent agent in my area and I got a VERY BAD TASTE in my mouth. It's been 4 years since that experience and I've just completed my licensing exam and am about to start as a captive agent in the next few weeks. I wish I had known about this forum then, as I probably wouldn't have even spoken to this guy. He was taking advantage of my previous sales experience and I was just going in debt because I didn't even have an understanding of what I should really be making.
He even gave me a sheet of paper with 100 spaces for names, phone numbers, and SIGNATURES for me to get prospects over my Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. SIGNATURES!

That ain't right! Did he ask you to get a blank check also? :D

Lol. No but he did forge my signature on a Life Insurance application that I completed on myself for practice one day. I now know not to put my real information on it...I started getting debits from my account a few months after I left. I reported him, obviously.

Sorry you had to stumble unto this site....All you're going to find here is a bunch of "blow-hards" that think they know everything......You got to do what you do and leave the BS outside. Momma always told me: never **** where you eat.....very rarely will you ever get any "good" advice here.

So I guess I can look into going Indy. I just dont know how much goes into be indy. How do you go about it. I am going to have to do alot of research on that. Bankers was a horrible style of selling. I have had people tell me know more than a dozens times and have my FTR in my ear yelling at me to set the appt. I know you have to overcome a few objections but geez there has to be a limit! LOL!
Independent is a coin toss just depending on area, product all the usual stuff. What becomes nice though is when you are checking out carriers and you become appointed they offer all kinds of training tools, webinars, agent guides ect..ect.. so If and when you get started the tools will be there for you.

You make your own point.

Find you a independent agent affiliated with a reputable IMO..Their are many very good agents in this business. It is more complicated than it was when I started 22 years ago. Go for senior market and final Expense..Med Sup business. If you work hard you will make it. I am in SC . Keep in mind the senior market is growing faster than any other. One more thing if your wife is working or if you have savings, you will need enough money to carry you for 24 months while you build your book of business. it is not to say you won't make money but you will need back up cash. Most people will not tell you that but I will.
