I Need Help!

One more thing if your wife is working or if you have savings, you will need enough money to carry you for 24 months while you build your book of business. it is not to say you won't make money but you will need back up cash. Most people will not tell you that but I will.

Well I guess I am one of those who wouldn't tell him that. Having some "back up cash" is undoubtedly a good suggestion. However, having 24 months worth I think is a little excessive unless the agent is going to coast and take his or her sweet time getting started.

If an agent goes into the senior market there is no logical reason why, after the first few months, the agent shouldn't be earning "a living" assuming they are taking advantage of the twelve month advance.

I can't imagine a new agent working full-time selling and not writing an average of around three Med Supp apps per week. That does not take into consideration the opportunities the agent will have to write some small final expense policies.

The first time I was considering going into insurance sales I hooked up with an independent agent in my area and I got a VERY BAD TASTE in my mouth. It's been 4 years since that experience and I've just completed my licensing exam and am about to start as a captive agent in the next few weeks. I wish I had known about this forum then, as I probably wouldn't have even spoken to this guy. He was taking advantage of my previous sales experience and I was just going in debt because I didn't even have an understanding of what I should really be making.
He even gave me a sheet of paper with 100 spaces for names, phone numbers, and SIGNATURES for me to get prospects over my Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. SIGNATURES!

Go buy lists of business owners from dun and bradstreet and make 300 dials, talk to 50 business owners and set 10 appointments per week for a year each and every week. I followed this with a desk and phone my first year and made over 185,000 in commissions........."Successful people have formed the habit of doing things that failures do not like to do."
