This New State Data Shows the Real Story Behind King v. Burwell:

In the 34 states potentially affected by the Court's ruling, those regulations have driven up costs not only for the estimated 6.4 million receiving coverage subsidies, but also for at least another 15 million who have been forced to pay more for their health insurance without getting any subsidy.

This Data Tells the Real Story Behind King v. Burwell

The Heritage Foundation published a report highlighting that on average premiums could decrease by as much as 44 percent for young adults and 7 percent for near retirees if Congress, in response to a ruling in favor of the plaintiffs in King v Burwell, simply eliminate three of the most costly Obamacare regulations—the age-rating rules, the actuarial value restrictions and the benefit mandates—in the affected states.

The biggest cost factor in Obamacare is guaranteed issue. All the stupid mandates and "free" care certainly add to the tab.

Community rating and the age banding definitely had more of an impact on the young invincibles than old farts.

I didn't have insurance before Obamacare. I couldn't afford it. I have diabetes and insurance companies hate people like me. We cost too much. We have to go to the doctors every 3 months. We spend a lot on Rx's. I had low paying jobs so I couldn't afford anything. I qualified for a sizable subsidy, now both my husband (both 38 years old) and I have insurance. Our monthly premium is next to nothing, literally. That is the upside. The downside is I still can't afford it. I can't afford the deductible, I can't afford to pay the OOP. On the bronze plan which is what I can afford monthly the deductibles SUCK! (I hope I can use that kind of language). I am torn as to whether I am thankful for the ACA or hating it. I am thankful I don't have to pay that stupid penalty. I am hating because I still can't go to the doctor.

So how much would I save?

I suppose it could be worse.

You could be on Medicaid along with 10M others. You could afford to go to the doc but finding one who will accept you as a new patient would be a challenge.

Perspective depends on whose ox is being gored.

If we go back to old days there will be plenty of agents that will sell you all types of plans that will be affordable and give you peace of mind until you have to use it."Your honor I hate being in Bankruptcy Court really ,My agent said I was covered"

Something doesn't add up. If you get a "sizable" subsidy and your premium is "next to nothing" why wouldn't you also qualify for the cost sharing reduction? Everyone I've enrolled who has a premium that is next to nothing also receives the cost sharing reduction.

This means they enroll in a Silver plan and have a small deductible and a low MOOP.

But now some of us get to pay twice as much in premium, additional taxes and have higher deductibles.

The old bankruptcy card.

The average unpaid medical bills in BK filings is around $13k ............. about the same as a very cheap new car.

Unpaid medical bills rarely lead to bankruptcy except in the minds of idiots that keep repeating fairy tales.

Me too I feel your pain but we as agents have to come up with something for the poorly paid or self employed folks who can't be underwritten. Political toast we will be if we don't! One good thing we are now talking about the cost of medical care.

If you got a sizable subsidy why the heck are you on a bronze when you can a bigger discounted price on a silver?
Did an agent help you?
