Insurance Blogs and Keyword Density

I have a question that hopefully some of you Blogging guru's would be kind of enough to answer.

I've read that blogging is a great way to gain traffic to your site.

I've also read that you need to target certain "keywords" in your blog for it to appear on search results.

How does keyword density come to play into this?

If I wanted to target " Florida individual health insurance rates"

Just as an example.

I would create a blog post that discussed florida individual health insurance rates, is that right?

And I would need that phrase to appear how many times in the post? 20%?

And does it matter if that phrase is broken up into different sentences , or must it appear as one phrase?

Thank you in advance for your help folks.

Blogging is a great way to attract potential customers. And it's fun too!

I think the most important thing is to NATURALLY mention your key phrase throughout the blog article without over-stuffing. If you do that, you'll accomplish your task.

20% seems a bit high, but maybe some of the SEO gurus can address that topic. Or they may undress it, depending on their demeanor at the time they read this post.

As an example...I just wrote this blog article...Ohio Health Insurance Rates…What's In Your Wallet? | Ohio Health Insurance

My key phrase was "Ohio health insurance rates." Obviously, I try to focus on the phrase, but you'll notice it's not in every paragraph.

I hope this helps.

Chumps thanks for the advice.

I see you're #1 for Ohio Health insurance rates.

Congrats!

Do you find you are getting enough traffic to your site, to generate your own exclusive leads?

20% is definitely too high and is something Google might penalize you for. Shoot for 2-3%--which will also help with readability. As for your keywords, remember that you want to choose keywords that people actually search for. I may want to use a key term like "monkeys chew on cat brains" and I can fill my blog post with that term, but if no one ever searches for it, it won't matter (please tell me no one ever searches for that...:)).

You can use Google's keyword tool to get the right keywords. Try to use one that has fewer PPC competitors. The keywords should appear as one phrase and should show at least once in the opening paragraph.

Remember to not sacrifice quality just to shove keywords in there. If a prospect goes to your site and reads a bunch of crap that doesn't make sense, it's not going to make them want to buy their insurance from you :)

Everyone thanks for tips, they are definitely appreciated.

As to the 20% keyword density, that was a figure I got out of Adsense for Dummies.

Prinzel....as to the Google keyword tool, which one are your referring to?

keyword tool
search based keyword tool
traffic estimator

Again everyone thanks.

"Do you find you are getting enough traffic to your site, to generate your own exclusive leads?"

Plenty of traffic, and yes...many quote requests. Quality varies. Some prospects are a dream come true...Clean health and wanting to apply quickly. Others are just gathering information.

I NEVER call any lead to my site unless they ask to be called. Maybe a huge mistake. Maybe not. I have discussed this with Bob and I'm still not sure if they should be called.

Good luck. Plenty of good resources on the Board. Nick is one of them, although I detest the six-foot Michael Vick poster he keeps in his dog kennel.

Chumps you mean if some fills out the information in your norvax quote engine, you don't contact them?

Do you believe that would be like buying internet leads and not contacting them with the difference being the leads coming to your site are free, with the only cost being your time?

I see no problem with calling leads from your own site. You pay for leads from other sites and call them. Plus, leads from your own site should convert better (in theory anyway).
