Is Dave Ramsey a Dirty Word (or Two)?

I take issues with the notion that paying off debt takes precedence over just about everything in his mind. (Including stopping 401k contributions)

The thing that most people don't take into account, is that it's show business.

To get people to listen/watch, you've got to have something that's somewhat controversial.

If it's ho-hum...the ratings suffer...

Oh I agree... that's the same issues I have with Mad Money on CNBC....
I've been in financial services for nearly 25 years working nearly every aspect of the business in my career and the thing it's taught me. Is that the real solution is boring and takes discipline... something lacking for the most part in the general audience.....and today we see the results of that ... I'm not trying to get preachy...so if anyone takes offense... please accept my apology....:)

You've got that right, the one who really bugs me is that Rick Warren guy. The nerve of him to sell tens of millions of books and then give 90% of his money away to help needy people. What an ***. No one should ever do such a thing. Despicable!

I am not talking about successful authors such as warren or even large ministries such as Billy Graham. What I am talking about is people who are running a FOR PROFIT business and selling stuff especially to the church and Christians (i.e. Shaklee, Amway, or the latest MLM). I know Ramsey teaches some useful stuff and helps a lot of people. I believe in about 90 percent of what he teaches. I also know that he is cocky, arrogant, and sometimes gives very bad advice..... My gut tells me not to trust this guy!!

I hear ya...just having a little fun with your comment. I don't see what's not to trust. Have little to no debt, buy term, save. Doesn't seem to scary to me.

Now on another note. As a Christian if I see one of the little fish on your business cards or on the business name magnet stuck to the side of your car I start running as fast as I can in the other direction.

I'm holding a copy of a real contract in my hand.

Issue Date: May xx 2006

Total Contribution: $781,xxx.xx (single premium)

Contract Value as of 12/19/08: $571,xxx.xx

GMIB Roll-up Value as of 12/19/08: $883, xxx.xx
GMIB Ratchet Value as of 12/19/08: %931,xxx.xx

Thank you Mr. Ramsey. Thanks a lot. NOT!!!

I assume the contract is a Variable Annuity, why did the client but the policy, didn't they understand the risk and costs?

Generally speaking anytime I get an unsolicited proclamation of anything like...God, "I never cheat on my wife", "I've never used/do use drugs", "cheated on my taxes" a really loud siren starts going off in my head and I later find that quite the opposite was true. It's not a foolproof alarm...I've only been right about 80% of the time. The key is the unsolicited part and usually the comment comes out of left field.
