Just Joined in Texas

Hi. I just got my General Lines Health, Accidental, and Life Insurance License. I just started a temporary project selling Medicare Advantage Plans and Prescription Drug Plans. I would like to know how I can gain more knowledge about selling the right plan. Thank you.

Make sure their PCP is in network and all thier drugs will be covered.

Medicare.gov's health plan finder is a good tool to get familiar with.

And join Christopher Westfall's training site to learn the medicare supplement side.

If you wanna learn Final Expense, talk to Spur City (also in TX)

Figure out your networks.

In DFW, UHC has Presby and Baylor

Scott and White owns Waco/Temple/College Station

Start reading benefit summaries.

Good Luck!

You can't you sell these plans without first passing both the AHIP and individual carrier certifications-has your company provided you with the information about these?

I am currently working on certification courses right now.

Thanks for the recommendation Thomasm!

Where exactly in Texas are you? I'm in San Antonio. Feel free to reach out to me at anytime to talk shop and assess the situation.

I would not recommend doing more than one thing right now. I would concentrate and focus on doing one thing and once you get good at it then adding to your arsenal.

Hi. I am in Lubbock, Texas. I am working in a call center doing telesales. I want to do a good job. I want to learn more about the products. I am learning right now but we only 5 weeks to learn everything. Any advice would be awesome.

I need to clarify. I am working doing telesales. We are getting five weeks of training before taking the calls. I thought this would be a good starter job to get my feet wet in the business. It's a temporary job but I wanted to get a feel of the insurance business before I get out there to be a field agent which is my goal.

You can't do telesales (or any sales) for Medicare Advantage or Prescription drug plans without being certified, it is a CMS violation. If the 5 week training course offered by your employer does not include both AHIP and carrier certifications they are skirting the rules.

If you want to start your insurance career doing things that aren't both legal and ethical it's up to you-from your posts it doesn't seem like you would fit that description so am taking the time to inform you about this.

No. No don't want to do anything unethical. I guess I know what I need to do. That's why I joined the forum so I can learn things like this. Thank you so much for your help n
