Land Of Lincoln

regarding #3, I have an e-mail from someone on their staff that states the commission rate. For what it's worth, they've also confirmed my client enrollments as being in the system.

Well, I guess that's progress of sorts, FRJ. Is it 5.5% level, year after year? That's what I was told verbally.

Also, one of my first Land of Lincoln Enrollees finally received his Welcome Letter and notice of Premium due this week. Actually, he received 2 LOLH premium notices, that differed by $63.00. He called LOLH and paid the correct (higher) one by phone.

I assume by now everyone reading this has heard about the Land of Lincoln Health sister cooperatives in IOWA and NEBRASKA going belly-up. I hope the same fate doesn't await our LOLH.

Of immediate importance to agents who are writing Land of Lincoln business is this e-mail I received from LOLH last week. Follow the instructions...

"In lieu of our broker portal being down please send all enrollment confirmation to the below:

Please send the enrollee(s) information (First and Last Name, DOB, and effective date) VIA EMAIL to [email protected]. Please include broker name and NPN number to be tied to the sale."

A few days after you do this, you will receive an e-mail that lists each applicant and whether or not you're connected to them as their agent/broker.

The email doesn't specify how many years they are offering the 5.5% rate. I'm not sure why but they also have said that you can pay the first premium online about 10 days after you do the enrollment. Tried one and that worked. I have my fingers crossed that they will perform admirably!

I'm glad you've at least seen the 5.5% in writing. That's what the Agent Contracting specialist lady told me verbally. She also said that it is level, year to year.

I too hope that LOLH is able to manage their funds better than their sister Cooperative over in Iowa. That one had 162,000 premium paying members, yet it still crashed and burned.

I've only sent 1 to them so far only because client insisted on it. Enrollment went OK but I still don't want to send anybody there until I see how fast claims are paid.

Sam, I've enrolled somewhere around 10 individuals and families with LOLH. Like your client, they insisted on it. The pricing/PPO network combination can't be beat out here in the Chicago suburbs.

I understand your concern about claim payment efficiency, however. I get the feeling that LOLH will never publish such figures. But even if they did, it probably wouldn't mean much. The Cooperative that went under in Iowa (Cooportunity Health) issued a GLOWING report on how well they paid their claims and how solvent they were, on 7/21/2014. By 12/20/2014, they were deemed to be insolvent and taken over by the state of Iowa.

February 3, 2015

Dear Diary,

LOLH says that they still don't have their 2015 broker portal ready. Looks like the portals are hosted by a 3rd party I.T. company. The company that's supposed to build the 2015 portal is different than the one that did the 2014 portal. I know...It's crazy. No way to see anything regarding business or commissions.

Speaking of commissions, nothing has been paid yet. Will give it until about Feb 20th before calling in. Another goofy thing about LOLH is that we (agents) need to send in our client's name/dob/effective date, along with our NPN via E-mail in order to ensure that we get a commission for that client.

Have 2 more potential LOLH clients tomorrow. Hopefully I can talk them to BCBSIL, even though the premium is higher. Even if the Cooperatives in Iowa and Nebraska had not gone belly-up, I'd be uneasy with putting clients with Land of Lincoln Health. Iowa/Nebraska just add to that ulcerative, uneasy feeling.

I was told that commissions are being paid at the end of February. I'm not holding my breath but am cautiously optimistic!
