Should I gain experience as a Captive Agent first before going Independent?

Life/Health vs P&C is entirely up to what makes you tick. P&C requires a more structured environment, usually at least 1 employee. This is a benefit and a curse, depending on how you use it.
If you want to go independent, start there. If you want captive, go there. Especially on the P&C side, they have ways to make it very hard to leave a captive environment.
