So in the state of NC I don't believe I can sell it without a funeral director's license. I guess this is going to be fun trying to get that for the child.

It's really very simple. One way is to ask the family which funeral home they would normally use. Once you find out, call that funeral home and ask if they have a pre-need insurance agent. If they do meet with him and discuss the case with him. If he and his offerings check out, split the case with him.

If the funeral home says they don't use preneed insurance , they put it all in a bank trust or a "Funeral Directors managed trust" MOVE on to a different one.
