That's not how ownership works. If you're now an owner, you are personally exposed to the liabilities of owning a company that has been willingly billing people for a non-functioning service while taking away their ability to cancel. I assume your first order of business should be to refund every dollar that has come in over the last few months? If not, there are potentially legal grounds for people to come after your personal assets.

I appreciate the compliment.
But I do know what I'm talking about. The "corporate veil" is pierced by illegal activity, and doesn't apply to this company anyway. Read into that what you will.

The original company can license the name to a new entity.
That in itself does not do away with the liability to the new owner. The new owner should and can buy just the "Assets" of the business
