I have used Bold Chat a lot, and it's pretty inexpensive. They also have a free version.
Cost is $9 per month or $99 for 1 year
Unlike other chat programs, Bold Chat has a small screen that slowly scrolls from the far left of the screen to the far right. The free version doesn't scroll and just stays placed at the far left.
In case you're wondering, chat does work effectively. It's another way for people to contact you.
One other thing. With the paid version, you will hear a "telephone ring" on your computer when someone's trying to contact you. That's kind of cool and takes a little bit of getting used to..
