Looking for Some Thoughts on Senior and Life Insurance

Re: Looking for Some Thoughts:

You can not call people for Medicare Advantage plans but you can call them for supps or other lines. When you get to their home you can tell them that you also have Medicare Advantage plans but then you have to give it 48 hours before going back. When you go back at that point get a sales appointment conformation form signed before you give a presentation and turn it in with your application. Its easy, always lead with other products...

Re: Looking for Some Thoughts:

All you do is call them and let them know you met them at the event and they put their name in the bucket. There isn't a person stupid enough to think that they won't be contacted if they do that. "Although you didn't win the gas card, I can likely save you much more than a few gallons of gas."

Why would you even worry about it? Call them. Worse thing is they say no.

If you are leading with other products with the intention of discussing MA plans with them, it is a compliance violation.

It might be difficult to prove if you are selling mostly other products and sell only a few MA plans that way, but, if you are selling very little of what you used for door openers and selling 80% to 90% of them MA plans, it wouldn't be very hard to infer your intentions were to get around MIPPA. All it takes with CMS is an inference.

I don't sell many MA... I personally don't like them, UNLESS it's absolutely necessary! I know the rules about calling them~ which are completely ludicrous... I was more concerned about the "DNC" list.. that's why I asked... being that they gave me their numbers, I didn't see how it would pose an issue!! Just was curious as to what ya'll thought! Also, the way I would talk to the person, they seemed to think I was calling to tell them they won! And I didn't know how to change that... with ya'll helping... I know a better way to approach them now!

Rick, exactly... the worst thing they can say to me is "NO"... and I've had enough of those. I didn't want to mess up these good names, folks that met me, possibly remember me (I'm probably the only Southern Belle in these parts, so I know I stand out just by my accent) because of a horrible lead in!! BUT ya'll have helped me out! Thanks tremendously!! I'll let you know of my SUCCESS... I'm having a little faith!! :)

I was replying to the person that seemed to be advocating a bait and switch to get into MA discussions.

I'm sorry, I must have been reading it too fast and thought you were referring to me....

I have my likes and dislikes about Medicare Advantage... as with a Supplement... but hands down, I'd rather see someone get into a supplement than a MA anyday!

Just an example that has helped me sell Med Supps over a MA plan... to everyone that is turning 65 and qualifies for a Med supp plan:

I had a woman that was 100 % healthy (to her knowledge), she turned 65 in March, I submitted her application, got her all set up with a Med supp plan C... (which is perfect for my area and state) anyway, her mind was set on getting a MA before we ever met, just because she had talked to so many of her friends that were on MA plans. After speaking with me, and being a little hesitant because all of the co-pays, I guided her towards a Supp plan. WE did it... got everything taken care of... and would you believe March 13, she had 3 strokes because of an undetected blood clot in her brain?!! This lady has had hours and hours of therapy, speech and physical, surgeries, E.R visits, ambulance rides, helicopter rides, and the list goes on... I spoke with her about a week or two ago, to see how she was doing... and there's nothing that makes you feel better as an agent than to hear, I'm so glad that you changed my mind and showed me a better plan! Thank you!!!!! Just a little pat on the back :) but I'm happy that she wasn't so hard nosed and set.. or else she would be in a heap of trouble!

Thats a great job of educating a client on the differences.
You will get some referrals.

If you are able, I would send the woman get well soon flowers or a card....

I am curious, I wonder how much the woman would be paying if she didnt have a med supp, and went in the other direction?

Aren't the new rules that you can have them sign the appointment form at the time of the first appointment? I thought that the 48 hour rule had been eliminated. Not true?

In that scenario, what if the clients that you serve are middle income or lower? Not everyone can afford a med supp. If you lead in with FE, MA would be a better fit for these kind of people. That's what most of the agents are doing here in San Antonio.
