Looking for Some Thoughts on Senior and Life Insurance

Thats a great job of educating a client on the differences.
You will get some referrals.

If you are able, I would send the woman get well soon flowers or a card....

I am curious, I wonder how much the woman would be paying if she didnt have a med supp, and went in the other direction?

There's a bunch of different options... in my area Highmark Freedom Blue PPO is the best choice. They have anywhere from $0.00 premium up to $179.00 a month (MAPD) The Select plan is the plan that her friends told her to get on! I HATE THAT PLAN! It's only $57.00 a month, BUT the co-pays are astronomical!!! These are some of what HER co-pays WOULD HAVE been... Dr. visits $30.00... ER $50.00.... Ambulance $100.00.... Surgery... $200.00 (she was in the hospital...on a few different occasions, so possibly up to $600.00) Speech Therapy $30.00 each visit (twice a week) Physical Therapy $30.00 each visit (twice a week) for 8 weeks.... This woman would have been paying out the whaaazoooo if she would have listened to her friends rather than going with a smarter plan! so adding that up... well you get the picture, she would have paid a lot of money and wouldn't have been happy with ME at all...

About sending her a card or flowers, I didn't send flowers, but I sent a card and offered to come clean her house or fix her a meal....

How many booths were at the event? How many had a drawing for a prize?

Last event I worked like the one you describe was a few years ago when I was with Humana (pre MIPPA rules).

There must have been about 50 - 60 booths. Most, if not all, had a some type of drawing for a prize. I am willing to bet they had the same idea as you in calling. I would call them all before they get sick of hearing how they met someone at the senior expo. The first handful of people may have some luck, the rest will hear a dial tone real quick...

You're right... there was close to 40 though... smaller town! Most of them held a door prize, rather than a drawing at their booth like I did... With the door prize each booth gave to the Representative, (head honcho of the show) he set it aside, and throughout the day, as each Senior walked in, they would get several tickets... if the ticket that you had was selected then you were the winner of a door prize.

I, however, didn't want to do it that way, I WANTED their phone numbers.... so I did a drawing at my table. Maybe some others did too, but there were 2 Medicare Advantage companies there... highmark and humana... in which they couldn't take names or phone numbers.... So I had an advantage over them, simply because I offer Supplements and Advantage plans..

The true problem here is the way you obtained the phone numbers through a drawing for a gas card. I have had a booth at our local fair the past 5 years and the leads I collect are people interested in my services not random seniors trying to win a gas card. I have seen other insurance companies try this and essentially all you have is a box of 100 names that are hoping to win something. They have no interest in your services. Wouldn't you rather have 10 solid leads that know what you do and are expecting to hear from you?

How many leads do you get each year from this?

you should have said she won 2nd prize a $15.00..gas card ,since that is the max you can give out,on a MA.. in pa...give them all 2nd prizes....when you deliver the gas card you have a captive customer....

I avg about 50 leads over a 10 day period. All leads are prequalified while at the booth during my initial conversation when they are filling out the lead card. If anyone is suspect or has too many health problem I usually trash them. When I call they remember me and know the reason why I'm calling. I market health, life, med. supps, and LTCi.. Most leads are for health and life.

I've seen and spoken with other agencies and insurance companies that have tried the gas card approach. The leads you obtain have no interest in your products or services. It's similar to internet leads where someone fills out the lead page for a chance to win an iPod. It turns out to be a complete waste of money and time.

The real question here is: Did anyone ever win the $30 gas card?

Someone that wasn't related to you? hehe

What are you lead forms like? I'm willing to do that, I have several expos that I'm attending this year! I want to help them and at the same time build my client base....
